Re: Plusnet email moving to Greenby

@mavison I agree the Greenby 'documentation' is totally wrong, which is inexcusable for a company such as Enix - a supposedly expert hosting/mail service, but unfortunately, a little like many 'tech' company's, their revision policies seem to be at the bottom of their list of priorities  and there is no way, it seems, of getting them to correct the documentation in a timely manner.

@gardent Hopefully, this poor, to put it politely, service will be corrected quickly - but don't hold your breath - see my comments above.

Re: Plusnet email moving to Greenby

Thank you for your response.

At the moment I can send emails - but not receive them via Thunderbird.

At least not receive them on POP3 which I what I want.

They are still coming in though - and can be viewed on the Greenby web browser.

If I wanted a web browser I would not have used Opera (18.17 and prior) or Thunderbird in the first place.

Any ideas on POP3 (NOT telling me it's lazy!!!)?

Re: Plusnet email moving to Greenby

I tried this.

Of course you are using IMAP and I am trying to set up POP3 so it doesn't work.

Re: Plusnet email moving to Greenby

@ColdharbourDave are you using the full email address OR the <accountname>+<mailbox> as the username for the incoming server in the Thunderbird configuration ?

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Re: Plusnet email moving to Greenby

I tried the normal email address - which didn't work obviously.

If that had worked the Thunderbird would have continued to work anyway.

The I tried the account name + mail box name - which didn't work either.

Sending continues to work apparently - but I have lost formatting.

Do you have settings:

POP3 Server: mail.force9.net
Port: 995 Security: SSL/TLS

Or something else?

Re: Plusnet email moving to Greenby

What's all this then (advanced users only) in the email section of Greenby's webmail interface - in which I apparently have 3 email accounts:

Username: david@mmmmmmm.f9.co.uk
Password: Use the email account`s password reset password
incoming Server: imap.force9.net
Protocol IMAP (encryption enabled)
IMAP PORT: 993
Outgoing Server: relay.force9.net
SMTP PORT: 465(encryption enabled)
If you prefer to use the POP protocol rather than IMAP then please use port 995 with Encryption turned on.

Re: Plusnet email moving to Greenby

Google AI has the following comment:

Greenby (formerly Plusnet's free email) is migrating users, causing POP3 issues, but they do support it; you need to use your full email address as the username and often connect via imap.plus.net (or mail.plus.net) even for POP3, using ports like 995 (SSL) or 110 (non-SSL), but confirm settings on Greenby's support site as they update after migration. Many users struggle with the transition, needing to update clients for the new server/login details, so check their knowledge base or contact support for the precise, current settings.
Key Steps & Settings:
  1. Username: Use your full email address (e.g., yourname@yourdomain.co.uk).
  2. Incoming Server: Try imap.plus.net or mail.plus.net (Greenby uses Plusnet's infrastructure).
  3. Port:
    • SSL/TLS: Port 995 (Recommended for security).
    • Non-SSL: Port 110.
  4. Authentication: Use your full email address and password.
  5. Check Greenby Support: Settings can change post-migration; visit Greenby's support pages (or Plusnet community forums) for the definitive settings after your migration is complete.
Why the Confusion?
  • Migration: Users are moving from Plusnet to Greenby, and settings often break during this time.
  • IMAP/POP3 Mix-Up: Some users find they must configure POP3 settings but use the IMAP server address (imap.plus.net).
  • Outdated Info: Older guides or settings may not reflect the new Greenby environment.
If you face issues, update your email client (like Outlook, Thunderbird) with these details and look for specific updates on Greenby's official support channels.
