Re: Plusnet email moving to Greenby

I haven't observed this particular feature. Maybe I wasn't looking hard enough.

It does occur to me that the number on the task bar COULD be the number of recent incoming Thunderbird emails not yet opened or inspected.

Re: Plusnet email moving to Greenby

@Mount

I have used Thunderbird for years (currently v146 on Win11) ... and never seen numbers attached to the taskbar icon!

There are some settings under General => Incoming Mail => App Icon Options to badge icon with count of new or unread messages. What is your set to?

Re: Plusnet email moving to Greenby

It does do this. I'm on Windows 11 and it does it.

Sorry can't remember what was the case on my previous PC which was Windows XP but I very much doubt Windows XP "supported" having numbers of unread emails in the task bar.

Re: Plusnet email moving to Greenby

And it does now here, after setting "Show badge icon"" and "new messages".

Re: Plusnet email moving to Greenby

@Phaeton   Further to my message # 540 I should have confirmed that I also sometimes receive delayed messages.  And now a specific example.  Ever since Plusnet absorbed Metronet I have had both a metronet email address and a plusnet one.  Also ever since Plusnet has sent notification of my monthly bill to both addresses.  They arrive on 11th of the month at more less the same time for both addresses.  But not this month.  Duly received on 11th Jan at  metronet address but nothing so far at my plusnet address.

The phantom indications on the Thunderbird taskbar icon continue.  The attachment shows the latest - 13 new emails.  If I click on metronet inbox - no response, 13 remains and no new metronet emails.  When I click on the Plusnet inbox the 13 immediately disappears but no new plusnet emails.

What happened to the Plusnet bill notification to my plusnet address and how many others are not arriving?.

Perhaps one of the very helpful Plusnet experts here could comment.  I have given up on the Greenby AI bot

Re: Plusnet email moving to Greenby

As of today 5/2/2026 @ 10:36 my metronet email account which had been successfully migrated to Greenby was working ok, now no longer works.

If I do "Get Messages" on Thunderbird I get:

"Login to server mail.metronet.co.uk with username xxx@metronet.co.uk failed"

This msg on a screen which also says:

"Enter New Password" and "Retry"

NOT IMPRESSED!

If I logout and restart Thunderbird I get a different msg which requests I re-input my password.

Something at Greenby has been screwed up

Re: Plusnet email moving to Greenby

I get this all the time

For what its worth you might find restarting your PC enables Thunderbird to update your messages - after which it is likely to revert  to "Enter new password"

If someone knows how to solve this conundrum - please post!"

Re: Plusnet email moving to Greenby

I think the Greenby server must be down, both migrated emails are failing today...

Re: Plusnet email moving to Greenby

@tobiz    The previous message on here was 3 weeks ago - I had begun to think that this topic was now dead e.g. everybody's email was behaving perfectly and there were no problems to discuss.

I think your emails will be back now - mine are and I had exactly the same outage at the same time.  I also think this is something you will have to try to get used to.   Both my metronet and my plusnet emails suffer from these random outages and have done so since soon after migration.  One of Greenby's USPs I presume.

It would be interesting to know how you get on if you raise this with the Greenby AI bot.  My recent experience of engaging  Greenby is the AI bot asking me to raise a new Ticket on top the Ticket it has raised.  Then after 14 days or so when I ask about progress it raises yet another Ticket..............  ?!   Three tickets for the price of one - but no progress.

@Mount

As of 15:17 20260205 still requires a password on starting Thunderbird, ie no change.

Re: Plusnet email moving to Greenby

While of little consolation to you, both my accounts are connecting using Thunderbird over POP OK

Don''t know about getting the mail as none has turned up - it is only for PlusNet stuff now anyway.

Both accounts though are only for a single 'default' .plus.net mailbox, nothing exotic.

The Greenby 'server' is though painfully slow, which might make Thunderbird think the login is being rejected and a new password might fix it.

Re: Plusnet email moving to Greenby

@ColdharbourDave   Do you think this is a PC or Thunderbird problem rather than Greenby?  When I have outages on Thunderbird as often as not a notification box pops up - bottom right corner - telling me  that the email server has disconnected.. A related but separate matter is occasional failure to save to sent box when a box pops up saying server timed out.   I then have the option to manually save to a local (Thunderbird) file.  Seems like Greenby and not PC/Thunderbird.

I normally receive an email notification of new postings here from Plusnet Community Mailer.   Having previously raised a concern about late or missing emails to my plusnet address I have just realised that although I was notified about Message # 546 there is nothing so far about # 547 and # 548

Re: Plusnet email moving to Greenby

The PC I use goes back to 2022 - Win11 kept updated.

I have had this issue of repeatedly demanding a password/new password before the transfer to Greenby.

But not as much.

I think it might be whatever takes place on "hand-shaking" between Thunderbird and the email source.

I am not technical - so can't visualize what that might be.

So the best I can offer is the log-on handshake process has become less reliable - and it fluctuates too,

Sometimes you get several days of good email receiving on the trot.

Then it "breaks" and you are back to having to put in passwords again.

Re: Plusnet email moving to Greenby

When these outages first occurred after migration Thunderbird showed various messages including invitation to re-enter password. This never helped so after those initial outages I "now lie back and think of England" until it all chimes back in.  I doubt any intervention from the user is going to help - other than patience while the Greenby server cranks up.

Re: Plusnet email moving to Greenby

All seems back to normal now, just a temp outage...
