Is it possible to set up Thunderbird with Greenby - same as Plusnet? (that was complicated enough 3 years ago)
I haven't been transferred yet or had any notification that it is imminent (PN mail-only customer), but as I understand it, if you already use a mail client (TB or any other) there is no 'setting up' required - it should just continue to function as it did.
Equally, setting up from scratch, using a current PN (or legacy brand) email account, is done exactly as before - Greenby is after all, merely the mail platform.

Absolutely correct John.

Again, absolutely correct, I've just been though setting up TB with a migrated test account.

Thanks, @MisterW - I can still get some things correct. 😄

My migrated free-online account requires that I connect using a full mailbox email address e.g. mailbox@username.free-online.co.uk. As per the Greenby AI bot which told me: "After migration, you should use the full mailbox name as the username. Logging in with just “[username]” will no longer authenticate."

It certainly is - I did it myself this morning to add a new account to my Thunderbird. It was a sons existing Force9 account which I added just to see if it had been migrated ok, as they were unable to access it using various iDevices. I used the normal F9 settings that I use for my (non migrated) account, ie
IMAP Server: imap.force9.net Port: 993 Security: SSL/TLS
SMTP Server: relay.force9.net Port: 587 Security: StartTLS
User name: <account>+<mailbox>
Authentication: Normal password
So an existing account should work with no changes.
Note that for mailboxes, there has been some suggestion that migration sets them to the main account password. That was true in my case, but I was not sure what it was before migration!

The AI bot also told me to use
- Incoming server (IMAP/POP3): imap.free-online.net
- Outgoing server (SMTP): relay.free-online.net
- Ports: IMAP 143, POP3 110, SMTP 25
- Security: No SSL
so I asked "Can I use SSL/TLS connection"
and it replied "Short answer: No—please use the standard non-SSL settings."
YMMV clearly.

@SilverE This totally incorrect 'information' has already been referred back to Greenby by the business for correction.

I'm afraid the AI bot is not very I. Its wrong and it has been brought to the attention of the business.
SSL/STARTTLS IS supported and should be used.
edit @jab1 beat me to it.

I told the bot to refer the SSL question to a real person - but the ticket was closed with no answer. I will switch my connection to SSL.
When first migrated I could not connect with just my username, I had to use the full mailbox address. Has this also been fixed? I can still use the full address.
I also failed to send emails from an alias - has this been fixed? I gave up testing on the basis that I'll go elsewhere for my main email on plus.com since even if aliases do work it's too much hard work to set up every one I need.

Why do folks insist on messing with settings? The AI bot is wrong, it’s been stated multiple times but folks insist on quoting it.
What works with Plusnet should work with Greenby with the odd minor transitional exceptions. If folks encounter difficulties do not mess with the settings but ask for guidance. Give…
- Email brand
- Default or secondary mailbox
- Email client
- IMAP or POP3
- Full error message / code
In another browser tab, login into the Plusnet user portal BEFORE clicking the fault & ticket links

But if something is not working, a users first port of call should be an official manual or help information.
The problem is caused when that official documentation is wrong, not by users believing it.
That is inexcusable. And it is appalling that it still has not been corrected! Not a good start.
Users should be able to refer to the official documentation - they may know nothing of this forum, full of unofficial posts some of which are misleading. I know there are many experienced users here who are spending a lot of time valiantly trying to help people - and many thanks to them, and to the Plusnet staffers doing what they can to help.

Very true! My husband and I have half a dozen email addresses between us on our account and for the past two days we could, had we wanted, have looked at each other's emails as they could all only be accessed by the same user account password at greenby. I registered with this community to add to this thread, but when I went to greenby's webmail to pick up the 'verify your email address' message - something had changed and each email address is now using their correct original passwords at last! I don't know if it is illegal (GDPR?) to read other people's emails or not?
Now if only we could get back to using Thunderbird to pick up the emails we would be relatively happy. These are Force9 emails, all using POP3, we both use Thunderbird but he is on Linux(Ubuntu) and I am on Windows10. What I find odd is that there is no error message on Thunderbird, it just reports 'no new messages to download' which is clearly untrue since there have been new emails showing on the webmail.
