Just to confirm that my Metronet email is working again.

Re: Is Greenby down?

@mavison

The reply was supposedly from the same agent who was dealing with my ticket. I assume the agents are not also bots...

My emails from today have now come through but it looks like all those from the 3 July have gone into a black hole.

Incidentally, is there anything that can be done to block or report phishing/spam emails from my own postmaster address ?

I don't want to put my own email address on a blacklist...😳

Re: Is Greenby down?

@Bookworms

We had a dozens of emails that came in where the Sender was forged as one of our email account.

In the email Header/Source we found these were easy to detect from the : spf=fail or spf=softfail

Re: Is Greenby down?

I've looked at the source but I can't see anything about spf. maybe I don't have it set in Thunderbird?

 I'm not very good at reading email sources but they appear to be originating form dovecot-director-4.dovecot-director.enmail

I see there are other threads about this particular brand of spam/fake extortion email but it's the first time I've received one.

@pvmb

Thanks for the link to the status page - I had not seen that before.

MInd you, it still shows SMTP, webmail and the portal as having been up over the last days!

I am pretty sure they were all borked!

Re: Is Greenby down?

@pvmb

I agree there is that incident, from 22:15 to 08:16 ... but I had raised a ticket at 9:52 saying it was all unavailable, yet the bot replied We did experience some major outages earlier this evening that affected the Greenby website and our webmail services. However, our system status shows that these incidents have been successfully fixed, and all services are now fully operational again. It ended by saying Live chat isn't available right now, but someone will reply via email during normal working hours. even though technical support is supposed to be available 24/7. And it was about lunchtime when things really seemed to be working again here.

My post above was referring to what you see if on the main status page you click on the 'Operational' labels on the right, against any of SMPT, Webmail or the portal. you get a pretty graph of the 'Uptime' over the last 90 days. Only webmail shows some downtime on 5th, but none on 6th. The other two show no downtime on the 5th and 6th. Which is certainly not the whole truth as I saw it, as they were all down for about 20 hours.

Re: Is Greenby down?

Anyone else Greenby emails not working again today, 14th July 2026.  It is not sending emails and saying 'error unknown'?

Re: Is Greenby down?

I think it was a temporary thing, it's updated now.  It said "server temporarily unavailable due to lack of resources"

Re: Is Greenby down?

The last incoming message I have received through Greenby was on Tuesday 14th, in the evening at 19:35. When I opened up (mobile) Outlook on Wednesday to check on a delivery, I got a logging on error. I repeated the test using Outlook (365, v16) on Windows. That reported error number 0x800CCC0E. Error: Cannot connect to server.

I opened a ticket with Greenby support and was advised to change my password(s), although the existing password should have been OK if it passed the "new server" requirements - basically at least 8 characters long. There was no improvement, so they sent me a bunch of IMAP, POP3 and SMTP settings, some of which I was using already, some not. No better. I have tried a few variations such as ...f9... instead of ...force9... even ...plus... but no luck as yet.

I have a remote support session booked for tomorrow... Will update here if that fixes or at least explains the problem.

Edit: I should say I can only access my Greenby mail through the dashboard, and then only one mailbox at a time. Outgoing mail fails with "Unkown sender"

Re: Is Greenby down?

@dbriggs1950  Have you tested your new password the simple way? Logged on to the Greenby webmail site with the new password.

Re: Is Greenby down?

Hi @pvmb,

Yes, it doesn't work. The only way to get to my e-mail is from the dashboard VIEW WEBMAIL button. That's no good for my family users.

I can only open one mailbox at a time. Attempting another gives an obscure error message. If I close the webmail view by clicking on the bottom left Logout button, I am prompted for my username, password and provider. Entering the correct details gives a Login failed error.

Thanks

Re: Is Greenby down?

@dbriggs1950

Sorry, I don't know how Greenby handles this sort of situation. For my simple setup you log on to the Greenby portal using your Plusnet account name and password. Whereas, to access the webmail directly you log on with full Plusnet email name and Plusnet account password. But I only have a single user email account and don't use client software.

Surely by now someone here must know the answer for people in this situation? If there is one.
