Thank you for picking up on this. I must admit that I found the wording confusing.
Adam also added a Support Question on my account about this, where I gave a slightly fuller and hopefully clear request for ALL of the emails sitting in my Sent folder to be deleted, from whatever date they do the deletion job up to the oldest email, which is dated 5th January 2022. I suggested going back to 1st January 2022 just to be sure everything got deleted.
Perhaps Adam can confirm that this is clear.

I don't understand how you are unable to delete emails sitting on your own server, that seems very odd.
I've given permission for access to my account before, but apparently that didn't help.

We would need you to update the ticket with permission for us to change the password so we can access the mailbox.
They have advised that using POP3 settings on an email client would also delete them from the server.

I have previously given this permission, without any apparent success in dealing with it.
I already changed over to an account with POP settings, which is why there are no further emails left sitting in the Sent Folder after that point.
This is to do with all the emails that accrued in the Sent Folder while I had an account with IMAP settings. These old emails are the ones that I am asking you to delete since I cannot delete them no matter what I try.

Does POP3 look at any folder other than inbox?
Why can the email support team not simply delete the emails direct in the file store? Are the right questions being ask if the right people? @JW

Have you tried moving the sent items to a local folder in your email client. Such an action should avoid server activity trying to move the items to the deleted folder.

On your question at the end:
I always move all emails to Local Folders (with them then disappearing from the Inbox or Sent Folder). Then last year they started reappearing in the Sent Folder soon after moving them (successfully) to the Local Folder. So I tried deleting these emails and they would turn up in the Trash Folder but then a copy would reappear once more in the Sent Folder. This problem did not happen with Inbox items, only those in the Sent Folder.

Cheers for your patience @millerv, I really appreciate it.
Our network ops team have looked into this deeper and they needs to see if the issue is with the client or the back end system of our webmail.
Can you reset your password and delete your account on the mail client.
Once done log in to webmail whilst the client is not setup and try it again, letting us know if they stay deleted!

I have done as requested. No change. Still can't delete all the historic emails from the Sent folder.
I have added more notes about this into the Support Question on my account.
Can I set up the account again with my email client (using POP settings) to get emails to that address or do I need to wait?

Shift + Delete does an immediate delete, not via a move to trash.
If IMAP cannot delete an item, I would be surprised if POP3 were to fair better because I believe they both use the same command interface.
I will try to find time to look at a telnet command sequence to try to delete emails. If that fails then it is something odd on the server.
