Re: Cannot delete emails from Webmail Sent Folder

As I said, the problem has been going on since July last year with what was the only account and that account having IMAP settings.  I noticed it first in eMClient and then went to check and try to deal with it directly in Webmail.  There was no problem before last July with the IMAP settings.

I have only been testing POP settings in the last week just to see what the difference is in how things operate.

It doesn't change the problem, that I cannot delete through Webmail a large number of old emails sent using the old account with IMAP settings and these emails remain on the server.

Re: Cannot delete emails from Webmail Sent Folder

Have you tried moving messages from the sent folder to another to see if they reappear in sent again afterwards?

Re: Cannot delete emails from Webmail Sent Folder

Hi Adam

I have moved a message from the Sent Folder to every other available folder in Webmail.  Each time the message bounces back into the Sent Folder (with a copy remaining in the other folder).

Re: Cannot delete emails from Webmail Sent Folder

Cheers for giving that a try. We'll need to raise this with our netops team next. Just before I do I need to check if it's OK for us to change the mailbox password temporarily and try and delete messages from the sent folder on your behalf?

Re: Cannot delete emails from Webmail Sent Folder

... a key question I did not ask, presuming that this is a *.plus.com mailbox, is it a legacy brand email account having a firm fixed storage allocation?

If yes, then it would make a deal of sense that mail items cannot be deleted if a move is involved.  An attempt to delete and item (via the deleted items folder) or a move will temporarily increase the file store utilisation (create a copy BEFORE doing a delete).  Therefore if the utilisation is at the strictly enforced ceiling applicable to some of the legacy mail services, then all such activities will fail.

Re: Cannot delete emails from Webmail Sent Folder

It has always been a Plusnet email account (*.plus.com), I did not bring it over from anywhere else.

Re: Cannot delete emails from Webmail Sent Folder

Hi there, I'm sorry you've not had an update for a while. I had a response to ask how far back you'd like to go to delete messages (i.e older than X days) Can you let me know? I'll pass that straight back on for you.

Re: Cannot delete emails from Webmail Sent Folder

The oldest email is from January 2022. So clearing back to 1st January 2022 would be 410 days ago (if that is what you mean).

I think that there is confusion here.  I the asked question should have been something along the lines of "How many days "older than" do you want deleting?".

An answer of 90 days would zap anything more than 3 months old.

If the oldest is 410 days old and that is taken as the figure, nothing will get deleted.  If you were thinking of "going back" that number of days - and the job gets done in 5 day's time - you will only have emails sent between 01/01/2022 and 05/01/2022 left in your sent items folder ... I suspect that is not what you want to happen?
