@stathe

Can you describe the difficulty you are having with getting into the router ?

then someone here might be able to help and walk you through what to do.

PN have not been helpful saying I have a fault in house but all checvked by Openreach here last week   They in the past haave lowered my NR to 2 or 3 But dont try very hard now  not a lot I can do have been there before so in my records   Thank you

@stathe

Your router's SNR is not something that can be set to a fixed value by Plusnet.

The SNR is determined by an automated process within the telephone exchange called "DLM" (Dynamic Line Management) that constantly monitors your line for noise interference and signal levels to determine what SNR your line is capable of.

If your line is always quiet and working well then your router's SNR number will automatically be adjusted downwards slowly (typically over ten days), whereas a noisy or faulty line will cause the SNR to go up quickly.

Openreach can reset the target SNR to an initial value (typically 6dB) for the DLM algorithm to start monitoring the noise trends on your connection, but it is then up to the DLM to adjust your router's SNR (and associated speeds) to provide the best compromise between speed, stability, and avoiding dropouts.

Even if Plusnet asked Openreach to change your line's target SNR to 3dB, while you still have a detected fault on your connection, initially your broadband would likely frequently dropout (because the SNR would be below what the line can support), then after a few days the DLM would keep raising the SNR and reducing the speed until stability was reached, but you would soon end up back where you are now with a high SNR and very low speeds.

If there is a fault with your ADSL within the house, it is unlikely that your SNR will go below 6dB until the fault is cleared.

@Leanne_T

Can you run an ADSL line check and post a screenshot of the result here, so that we can help @stathe resolve the problem,

or better still you phone him to arrange a broadband engineer investigation to help your elderly and vulnerable customer.

Hi @stathe

We've reached out to you through private message a couple of times now to help further.

If you can please get back to us with the details we've requested, that would be great.

@Linzi_H  I don't think you are going to get anywhere via private message,  can you just phone him ?

Re: Very slow getting worse

@stathe

There is very little else that Plusnet can do about your broadband speed.

As I have explained several times in the topic Some advice for @stathe  you likely now have between 30 days and four months before you will lose your Plusnet telephone service, and subsequently lose your Plusnet ADSL broadband and Plusnet email.

You need to find an alternative broadband provider NOW !

  • Have you contacted Wessex Internet or Gigaclear to see whether they can connect you to full fibre ?
  • Have you asked  https://somersetcomms.co.uk/4g-5g/  to quote for fitting an outdoor 4G aerial and indoor router ?
  • Have you asked  AbilityNet  to help you, and perhaps install your 'Smarty' SIM, or improve your broadband setup ?
  • Have you checked how much Starlink would actually cost rather than just dismissing it ?

You need to get your new broadband provider up and running before you can address porting your telephone number to a VoIP phone provider, and getting your email moved somewhere other than with Plusnet (unless @Linzi_H can get you moved to Greenby ASAP ?) .

You need to understand that you won't be a Plusnet customer (for anything) in six months time.
