My mother-in-law-to-be has an old plusnet broadband account with the original USB modem they sent, which I want to replace with a router. I've got a BE broadband TG582n left over from when I moved my line to plusnet - is there a way for me to use it? Poking around on the forums suggests it's not compatible with the plusnet firmware (something about DANT-1 and DANT-T?) - does that mean I can't use it at all?
The other options are to buy something cheap off amazon or persuade plusnet to send one - but I'm guessing they'd still charge for that?

You'll seriously struggle to get an ex-Be router to work with PlusNet.
There are some guides on the Be Usergroup site on how to do it, but it's non-trivial.
I looked at it (and I'm an IT techie) and decided not to bother when I moved recently from Be to PN.
Even though I do have plenty of routers lying around I just opted for the "free" PN one.

The Plusnet router would cost £5.99 p&p and a 12 month tie in

If it's a legacy account it may be worth considering signing your FMIL up for one of the current products at the same time - likely to be cheaper amongst other things.
Could be worth a call to the customer retentions team?
