Re: Usenet still up the spout after upgrades.

I just checked the service status:
"We have since corrected this error, and most customers are now able to access the service without problems".
No you haven't and on what basis do you make this statement? There is plenty of evidence here of customers who still cannot access Usenet.
Slow to escalate the problem quick to downgrade it.
Quite appalling for customer relations, I rescind anything positive I might have implied about PN customer service.

Re: Usenet still up the spout after upgrades.

So how many Usenet customers do PlusNet have, and how many are still unable to access it?
May I ask what your evidence is, I've only seen a handful here?
This is a Forum remember, not a formal route for resolving problems so almost by definition is not representative.  Cool

plusnet.service.announce is where to look. Not plusnet.announce

Re: Usenet still up the spout after upgrades.

Now plus net are using giganews does this mean we got binaries again.

Usenet now is working for me.  The only strange thing is if all the articles have been renumber Thunderbird hasn't noticed.  But I have notice there does seem to be more spam on this server.

Well spotted that man, plusnet.service.announce and plusnet.service.status are indeed the groups I *meant* to subscribe to ... postings there are fine
I'll double check the group that had "scrambled" threads ...
FWIW giganews does seem fast.

Re: Usenet still up the spout after upgrades.

I've deleted account and remade another but still can't connect to the news-server. Am using OE. Has the server address changed or requires a log-in now, or what?

Re: Usenet still up the spout after upgrades.

OK, I turned debugging on in my newsreader and here is a more verbose version on what I posted earlier.
Why is Giganews asking me for authentication if it is "fixed"?
I have removed most of my newsgroups and deleted machine specific information to move over to another news service since PN is fubar:

Authentication error still, cannot get subscription list either as I don't know what username and password are required. (Thunderbird)
Await universal fix!

Newly re-setup news.plus.net will not let me have any groups.

Re: Usenet still up the spout after upgrades.

Still no luck for me either. Why do a few lucky users get access but so many of us don't?
I'm on BBYW Opt I, using Thunderbird. Never previously had to authenticate, but am asked to now to no avail.
I've tried all the usual things: deleted and re-subscribed to my account, tried all the various names (news.plus.net, usenet.plus.net etc).
I can't believe that this is just a problem for a few unlucky customers, Bob.

OK that group does have a lot of messages (about 400,000) and I was trying to retrieve the whole history (which I had back to a similar point in time when it was on supernews) it seems there is some sort of glitch within the first few thousand messages, if I mark those read and retrieve the rest it doesn't confuse thunderbird, could be the server, could be the client, hardly the end of the world.

Sounds like the issue is dependant on your IP address, presumably your range hasn't been sorted out yet ...

Re: Usenet still up the spout after upgrades.

Anybody that still cant get in should go to http://www.plus.net/support/service/problems/problem.php?intProblemId=50908 and click This problem is affecting me.
It's been downgraded from a P1 because they believe "Most customers are able to reconnect."
Opening a ticket wouldn't do any harm either!
