Any ideas?

Since above post....
Rebooted puter... turned off router for 5 mins... Reconnected router... turned on puter.
Started download and watched connection go from a steady 150k/s to a very unsteady 20k/s. Connection seemed to be on and off.
Got 82% showing on wireless connection, but even that just drops instantly and then pops back with the usual 82%.
Havn't got a long enough cable to try the direct approach, but puter is only 6 foot at the most from router.
Are PN having any troubles!!! Thought I'de better check before tearing puter apart and rebuiling from the case up.

You've got a very small network cable if it won't reach the 6 foot to your router Rick!
Considering your router is so close and you state that the signal drops badly, I can't honestly understand why you don't invest in a cable long enough. After all they are only a few quid m8, and you would almost certainly get better results than wireless.

my cable would have to be about 15-20 foot to account for the shape and direction. Would a cable this long work?
If I can get one long enough I will try it.

Hi Rick,
Before I moved house, I used to have my router connected to my computer by a piece of 50 foot CAT5e cable. there should be any issue with the kind of length that you're referrring to.

Make sure the cable is CAT5e not plain CAT5.
