For the past week i've noticed speeds in the evenings are only about 20-30Mb but if i do a speedtest first thing in the morning its back up to 70Mb
I'm guessing its over utilisation at the exchange/cab?
I'm reluctant to log a fault as last time i did Openreach broke the line for a week!
I've got some TBB ping graphs
Last Thursday 18th
Yesterday 25th
Has anyone else noticed the same sort of thing in the evenings with plusnet? I can't get above 2.5MB/sec downloads but normally are 7.5MB/sec
Exchange is St Neots EMSTNEO - Both TBB graphs were with barely any internet usage (facebook browsing)
I've had a few PPPoE disconnects but not sure if they're related
Thanks

Make sure you let us know what your BT speed profile is set to on there. We'll check ours is set right.

I know things will generally be slower on peak times on a contended DSL line but this is a bit excessive...

Are you sure theres not some traffic management going on for http? speedtests and normal downloads are still showing about 15Mb / 1.6MB
Thanks

Could you try the TBB speed test in the evening
The interesting part is whether there is any difference between the normal test and the http x 6 test

- During the days your speeds are fine.
- At peak you see http speed tests drop
- At peak Usenet is unaffected
- If you run a multithreaded speed test the speeds are fine.
- You are seeing a lift on the ping graphs and packet loss.
What I think is happening here is that the packet loss is causing your drop in http speeds at peak. The reason that usenet and the multithread tests don't show it is because the extra threads running are covering up for the packet loss. On a single threaded speed test, the packet loss will be causing the speeds to drop and TCP naturally throttles back.
I think you've got a fault that needs looking at! Have you raised one yet?
edit: my god, I really should proof read my posts better..
