My connection has been dropping overnight recently (first noticed last Thursday night, I think) and my speed, which was 6.5 Mbps until recently, is now 1 Mbps (and far less overnight). Is this BT trying to push me onto a more expensive service, like they did with my girlfriend?).

Your speed has dropped due to the large amount of disconnections on your line. If you pick up the phone is there any noise?

If you have no noise then you need to raise a dropping connection fault. This can be done here:
