Re: Hub has detected a problem with my internet connection

@Baldrick1 We don't have a phone as we only need the internet. I will have to go and buy one. Plusnet are saying perhaps the broadband might start later even though received messages saying it's all good to go.

@KrazyyOne Just out of curiosity, you registered her mid-June. Who were you with previously?

Re: Hub has detected a problem with my internet connection

Hi KrazyyOne,

Just chipping-in here, I'm no expert in these matters.

You mentioned you've not long moved into the property - so haven't had the internet there before.  But there was already a router in place?  Whose?

I moved house a few years ago and there was a selection of sockets available - but only one (in a bedroom) allowed my router to connect.  The others all had a dial tone.  I put it down to the previous owner going FTTC and what seemed to be the previous master socket had been relocated.  If you have other sockets, it'd be worth a try?

Jonty.

Not sure who he was with but he had left a cable and filter in the place where we plugged into.

@KrazyyOne

A corded phone is a useful fault diagnostic tool, can be used in an emergency and need not be expensive, see https://www.argos.co.uk/product/5529610?clickPR=plp:6:11

As @jontysoper  indicates, if the property has a master socket with a filtered faceplate and extensions are correctly wired, the hub will only work if plugged into the dsl socket on the master socket filter.

if its a mk4 filtered faceplate then that doesn't make sense

as @jab1 said earlier, a photo would be very useful

As you are using a phone/tablet on 3G/4G, if you request the desktop version of the site, you will find to the right of the 'smiley' icon a 'mountain' icon - click on that and follow instructions.

Cheers, @KrazyyOne .

@Baldrick1 / @MisterW - is that an old-style filtered socket?

Re: Hub has detected a problem with my internet connection

@jab1 no, its just a very old dual socket. I'm not even sure that will be the master socket ?

Without a phone, it will be difficult to determine whether its even live

Re: Hub has detected a problem with my internet connection

Cheers, @MisterW I did have my doubts, hence the question, and looking at it, I don't see it as a master socket either.

@KrazyyOne What is that to the right in the picture? I suspect the master socket is elsewhere.

Re: Hub has detected a problem with my internet connection

The fact that the previous occupier left a filte suggests that the property hasn't got a filtere faceplate so all the sockets should work after a fashion, even if performance is degraded.
