Went back to re-read the thread.
You're out of contract so the sooner you sign up the sooner you start saving money
If you stay with PN you could port your number to A&A (£15 port fee and £1.50pm I think).
https://www.aa.net.uk/voice-and-mobile/voip-information/
It is £12 for the porting, and £1.80 pm for a ported number

Hi Brian - Thanks for all your help. Just a quick one re the fibre poles - MJ Quinn installed a fibre pole just outside my house - the fibre line as a consequence would be really short but the pole does not have CBT connectors at the top. The next pole along does have CBT connectors but it is quite some distance away and the fibre line would be quite long (and unsightly) from this pole. I suppose there is no way to get them to install a CBT on the pole?
Cheers!

@Alfaman They would still need to run a cable from the pole near the chamber to yours, and the length of fibre cable is irrelevant, anyway

How many houses will the new pole serve? If it's only yours then there's no point in installing a CBT.

Only my house I'm afraid the carrier pole is right outside the house. Down the road is a pole with CBT connections - already have 4 connections off it. So mine will be the 5th...

Dear All,
Many thanks for all your help with the broadband issue. After considering whether to stay with PN and get another supplier for the landline, I decided to switch to Vodafone Full Fibre 150Mbs for £25.50 a month. Reasons being though I never use the landline to make calls, I sometimes still get people phoning in - my GP called on the landline a couple of weeks ago. Also, if you don't want to give your mobile number out, its always useful to have the landline number. Vodafone allowed me to keep the landline number with the phone plugged into the router at no cost - I only pay for outgoing calls not incoming (don't intend on making ANY landline outgoing calls!) . Openreach made the FTTP connection last Friday from the fibre pole next to the house - all good no worries. I've been with Plusnet a very long time but their service seems to be degrading - first they stopped the mobile service and I had to switch to EE, and now they don't offer a landline option, and its impossible to get in touch with them apart from the customer phone line which has a 30 minute wait. If it wasn't for the wonderful help from the PN Community, there would effectively be no help from PN at all. Also, another factor is that there is a Vodafone shop in the town where I live so there is always someone to talk to face to face, and I set up the Vodafone contract there. A pity, but it is what it is. All the best to all and thanks again for all your help!
