It's thermostat controlled John and times to go off at 10.30 pm but issues seem to star about 12.30 onwards usually asleep at that time

Me too but there's something's in life that are just not worth pursuing I mean a fix could be to replace our boiler which is only a few years old with a different manufacturer and hope no interference.Still suspicious that problems may be external as they're getting ready to install fibre down this road and have been up and down the poles.Maybe full fibre will help.In some ways ever a full line failure will help as it would identify the source

As the culprit is the boiler, changing the connection type will have no effect, and as I don't recall seeing many other people having this issue....

John you're right only seen one other person on here back in 2024 with similar issues but the thread ends without a clear answer

If you Google boiler interference there's like a massive checklist of possible solutions (like pilots do) so think it's about keeping life simple and either touching boiler controls or repowering route r it may even fix itself with time

I'm not clear whether the interference is affecting power or dsl signal ?

@tearlec the event log covering yesterday & today would be useful to see what exactly happened during the last failure 'event'

I would say the Technical log page is worth a view as this includes the Line and Signal attenuation figures. Just need to hide the broadband username.

Not sure that is accurate... it seems whatever the boiler is doing is bringing down the DSL connection from the Router to the cabinet.  The likelihood is that it is the boiler creating EM interference that causes the problem.

FTTP is optical cable and not subject to EM interference in the same way so likelihood is that FTTP will not have the same problem... but as @MisterW asks could it be electrical interference on the ring main from the boiler - you could try connecting the router to a different ring main (if possible) or using a ferrite core on the router power cable to try to eliminate the interference on the power circuit.

How close does the phone cable run to the router  Boiler?  I am not sure if a ferrite core on the Phone cable would help (or just impact your DSL signal...?)

I have Worcester Bosch boiler with a Hive system and not experienced any issues with internet connection.

Unless the boiler is different to mine, there's no wireless connection from the boiler to anything. The Hive Hub, connected directly to my router, "talks" to the Hive receiver and thermostat wirelessly. The receiver is wired to the heating wiring centre as is the boiler. 

My router is by the front door and the boiler is in a kitchen cabinet nowhere near to it.

I would appreciate being educated as to how the boiler can affect wifi. Electrical interference?

As suggested in a previous post, I searched for "boiler interference" and came up with no relevant results. There was information as to what can affect wifi, but boilers were not listed anywhere.

I'm a bit confused. You say the boiler is timed to go off at 10.30, so how can it affect the router at 12.30 when the boiler is off?

Also, which buttons on the boiler control do you press to restore broadband?

If it's interference from the boiler, then when it starts it must be continuous. If it was a spike or a burst of EMR, then the router would only temporarily lose connection, & then reconnect automatically. The fact that the orange light is continually flashing until you do something to stop it, indicates continuous interference.

Did you read that article I linked to earlier? If you have a medium wave portable radio (I know many don't theses days), then put it near the boiler while the orange light is flashing on the router. Listen for any rasping/buzzing noises. See if the noises disappear when the router starts working again.

I have a Worcester Bosch Combi boiler, doesn't cause any issues with the WiFi or Internet FTTP... we used to have occasional problems with FTTC - but I didn't associate it with the boiler.

The Boiler seems to do it's own thing from time to time - it has a pump for the central heating which it activates briefly a few times a day - I assume to ensure it doesn't get "stuck" during the summer - and it runs the pump after demand for hot water - I assume to cool the boiler.-  It also has other "feature" to allow connection of smart controls (which we don't have/use.)

It's quite possible there might be some sort of fault that cause EM interference and it gets activated by some boiler "maintenance" activity that is not associated with switching the central heating on or off... but very difficult to diagnose...  

Is it possible to turn the boiler/Hive off (disconnect from mains power) for a day or two and see if the problem reccurs?
