Have just recieved a email from plusnet stating the quote.
If estimated is so high why am i still opn a profile of 2500?
Such a low speed would not be good enough to stream hd films smoothly

I'm sorry that in the interest of being honest and plain speaking with you our response may disappoint.
The speed estimate of 13mb was based on locality, your individual phone line has an attenuation of 47db which means that it is quite a long distance between you and the exchange. With these factors in mind we'd expect speeds of between 5 and 6mb.
I can see that you have raised a fault ticket so we'll leave that for the faults team to deal with and see if we can improve things more towards the kind of line speeds I've mentioned.

Forget about speed tests for the present - your IP profile is limiting it - and the BT speedtest is not working properly but a fix should be rolling out on the 9th or so I am informed
Basically your internal wiring is screwing up your connection.
A few questions
How many wires are connected to the removable front plate (a photo would be a great help)
If you connect to the master socket (not the test socket) what is the sync speed
Is it possible for you to leave the router permanently connected to the master socket or would that cause major problems

Have no phones ect in the house, just use my line for broadband.
I could leave the router in the socket as i could just get a longer ethernet cable to reach around the sofa just like my phone connection/extension is now.

That would be a much better solution than having the router at the end of a phone extension lead.

This is what I think you have - please correct me.
The master cable from the pole comes to a junction box in the kitchen and then from there to the back of the master socket.
Attached to the removable part of the master socket is another multicore cable with either 2, 3 or 4 wires connected. This leads to another phone connection somewhere in the house.
If I am correct there are two possible reasons for the degraded speed -
the first, and most likely, is that the extension cable you are using is a standard extension lead designed for voice which is really mucking up the signal.
the second is that the extension wiring is causing problems. This can be checked by reporting the stats when connected to the normal master socket
Either way locating the router next to the master socket and using a long CAT5 ethernet cable is definitely the way to go
