Re: Is it done? Syncing at 17319kbps but only downloading at 6.5 mbps

My situations also appears similar to Simon and hevey, although I've been on the trial a good few months now.
Until this morning I've been stuck on downstream of under 8Mbps with quite a high noise margin (>15).  However as of this morning my router (Netgear DG834G) is currently reporting;
ADSL Link  Downstream  Upstream
Connection Speed 14333 kbps 1176 kbps
Line Attenuation 24 db 7 db
Noise Margin 7 db 5 db
Which is nice.  However a broadbandspeed test gives;
Date  Download Speed  Upload Speed
Today 12:26 5422 kbps (678kB/s) 983 kbps (123kB/s)
Which is odd.
A check on https://portal.plus.net/m...ction=data_transfer_speed which read gives a current
line speed of 6000.
So my sync looks great in both directions and indeed my upstream is nice and speedy.  However,
although my downstream sync is good it doesn't translate it actual speeeeeeeddd.
What's going on?

Re: Is it done? Syncing at 17319kbps but only downloading at 6.5 mbps

Me too.
I have a PN profile of 5.5Mbps = BT profile, which should probably be a profile of 6Mbps (I've syncing at 7Mbps for the last 3 days).
The BT speed checker is broken, as is the PN speed checker.
Several speedcheckers fairly consistly give download speeds of half my profile.

Re: Is it done? Syncing at 17319kbps but only downloading at 6.5 mbps

I have some questions too.
My email from Plus about the upgrade said:
Our Reference: 1-4156247375
The estimated speed for the upgrade is 5.5Mbps.
Wasn't sure if that meant the expected increase in my speed or what I should actually expect to get?  However, it looks like that it's the latter which is actually worse than before the upgrade.  Sad

My PlusNet Line speed for today says:
Estimated line speed:
Not recorded (service activated before we introduced estimates).
Current line speed:
3500
My BT speedtest just now gave:
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
Your DSL connection rate: 5761 kbps(DOWN-STREAM),  1079 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 5000 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 3059 kbps
and my current router report is:
DSL Status: Up
DSL Modulation Mode: ADSL2+
DSL Path Mode: INTERLEAVED
Downstream Rate: 5761 Kbps
Upstream Rate: 1079 Kbps
Downstream Margin: 9 db
Upstream Margin: 6 db
Downstream Line Attenuation:      34
Upstream Line Attenuation:       18
Downstream Transmit Power:      0
Upstream Transmit Power:       0

Results from mybroadbandspeed from just before the switch on the 10th and up till now:
Today 14:53               3219 kbps (402kB/s) 915 kbps (114kB/s)
Yesterday 00:44 2868 kbps (359kB/s) 926 kbps (116kB/s)
Thursday 20:10 3220 kbps (403kB/s) 933 kbps (117kB/s)
Tuesday 18:25 3677 kbps (460kB/s) 920 kbps (115kB/s)
Monday 22:32             3675 kbps (459kB/s) 915 kbps (114kB/s)
Aug 16, 22:21             3703 kbps (463kB/s) 926 kbps (116kB/s)
Aug 15, 12:10             3695 kbps (462kB/s) 901 kbps (113kB/s)
Aug 13, 21:57             3671 kbps (459kB/s) 900 kbps (113kB/s)
Aug 12, 20:44             3683 kbps (460kB/s) 738 kbps (92.3kB/s)
Aug 8, 21:48                4179 kbps (522kB/s) 379 kbps (47.4kB/s

Are things likely to improve? The abouve seems a little confusing too.
My upstream is significantly better than it was prior to the switch but downstream....!

Re: Is it done? Syncing at 17319kbps but only downloading at 6.5 mbps

@toenex and @lazydog
There are 2 points where speed will be limited for a known reason. These are the BT Profile and PN's Current Line speed. Both of you are being restricted in speed because the PN Current Line speed is lower than the BT Profile.
The Current Line speed should automatically update within 12 hours after a positive change in the BT profile but sometimes they don't and you will need to draw PN attebtion to it so that a manual update can be performed.

Re: Is it done? Syncing at 17319kbps but only downloading at 6.5 mbps

The significant point is that speed limitation has occurred today, so that throughput is considerably less than the profile limitations.

Re: Is it done? Syncing at 17319kbps but only downloading at 6.5 mbps

@itsme many thanks for that.  Checking today I see that my PN line speed has indeed been increased to 12000 and I'm getting well over 10MB download speeds, which is more like it.  I guess I was just a bit impatient but I didn't know what happens there.

Re: Is it done? Syncing at 17319kbps but only downloading at 6.5 mbps

Current Router sync:
DSL Status: Up
DSL Modulation Mode: NOT TRAINED
DSL Path Mode: INTERLEAVED
Downstream Rate: 5330 Kbps
Upstream Rate: 1051 Kbps
Downstream Margin: 6 db
Upstream Margin: 6 db
Downstream Line Attenuation: 34
Upstream Line Attenuation: 18

PN Line speed.
Estimated line speed:
Not recorded (service activated before we introduced estimates).
Current line speed:
4500
Current BT speedtester:
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
    Your DSL connection rate: 5330 kbps(DOWN-STREAM),  1051 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 4000 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 3570 kbps
Still doesn't seem right.
my modulation now says "Not Trained" instead of adsl2 and my IP Profile has got worse.
time to raise a fault or still wait?
thanks

Re: Is it done? Syncing at 17319kbps but only downloading at 6.5 mbps

Hi there,
If you look at my personal thread: http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,75147.0.html you will see that it can take MONTHS before the line settles down to something like usable and stable.
I started on this ADSL2 trial back in March 09, and only now am I getting a reasonably steady rate. I am still getting hiccups from the BT equipment (see latest post).
As you will see from my "history" I seem to have experienced the same sort of up and downs that you guys are getting........ it would appear that you have to be patient for at least 3 months if not more before things start to settle down  Sad

Re: Is it done? Syncing at 17319kbps but only downloading at 6.5 mbps

The throughput issues seem to be a relatively recent addition.
From speaking to the guys @ IDNet, they seem to be experiencing similar issues on WBMC.

What do BT say about WBC?

Re: Is it done? Syncing at 17319kbps but only downloading at 6.5 mbps

Why do you ask?
We use WBMC rather than WBC.  I've not kept abreast of any faults that BT Retail have been seeing on their own service.

Sorry - I seem to have an acronym problem!  Smiley
I meant what do BT, Openreach presumably, say about the speed slowdowns on

It would be really helpful to get a PN view on this and what's being done to address it, - might save a ton of speed-related tickets being raised!  Wink

Re: Is it done? Syncing at 17319kbps but only downloading at 6.5 mbps

We're currently looking into the banded profile issues that we've been seeing first.
I'll certainly highlight the perceived issues that we're seeing on throughput.
When I say perceived, I don't mean that you're making them up, I'm just not sure whether it's a global issue.
