really need help

I have just joined Plusnet. my computer and phone have connected to the wifi with no problem at all. However when i am trying to connect my printer it is saying I'm putting the wrong password in . But I am not.!!! the printer even says it will automatically put the password in and it is still saying it is the wrong password. I am now at the point of throwing the thing out the window. Id be really grateful for any help.

Chances are that it isnt really a password problem, its just that the printer can't make a connection and just assumes its a password problem!

Assuming you have the Plusnet Hub2 , its a dual band router and it uses the same SSID ( Wifi name ) for both bands (2.4 & 5ghz) . If the printer is only compatible with the 2.4ghz band then that might be the cause of the failure to connect.

Sometimes, temporarily disabling the 5ghz band on the router will allow the printer to connect. The 5ghz band can usually be re-enabled and the printer will stay connected.

Re: really need help

@Lynnepat Which printer, did you have it connected with your previous ISP - assuming you had one of course?

I am suspecting that the printer is holding on to the wrong credentials.

Don't take this wrong 😉 - but how technical are you?

@MisterW a different angle, but I hadn't thought of that.😀

Re: really need help

Just another thought;

Are you entering the Router or the SSID password?

Re: really need help

hi

Its a HP 4130e printer. and yes it was connected to my old broadband. it connected straightaway when i first bought it.

I have moved house and now it just wont connect.

I'm not thick when it comes to tech, but i'm also not the best hahaha. I spoke to HP on friday and then kindly told me at 17.58 that their shift was ending and i would have to call back on Monday!!! really unhelpful after being on the chat with them for over an hour!

Its a HP 4130e printer

That only supports the 2.4ghz band. Try my 'trick' above. I don't have a Hub 2 so can't give detailed instructions on how to disable the 5ghz temporarily but hopefully someone else may be able to...

@Lynnepat

If you need help with how to get to get to the screen shown by @Dan_the_Van  in the previous post,

watch this video where the relevant control is shown at time 1:20 - Changing your Hub Two wireless settings

Re: really need help

@MisterW , @outcast , @Dan_the_Van , I'm still wondering if the printer needs resetting to default ? I don't know HP kit, but certainly on Canon, if you switch routers/hubs, you need to clear all previous saved wireless data.

Re: really need help

@jab1

not disagreeing with you, but I would have hoped the hour long conversation with HP would have covered that option, but you never know

Re: really need help

but I would have hoped the hour long conversation with HP would have covered that option, but you never know - @Dan_the_Van  - you certainly don't but from my one and only 'technical'  conversation with another printer manufacturer, my suspicion is that it wasn't even thought about.
