Cheers Guys,
I try not to use all that dross but I do use the search window quite a bit for files on my machine and programs of course!
However today thinking I'll do battle with it... it has wound it's neck in (Microsoft) and run off.
Here is what I did previous to posting this thread from various sources around the web.
Change: sc config diagtrack start= disabled sc stop diagtrack HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\DataCollection sc config diagtrack start= disabled AllowTelemetry 0 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Search AllowCortana 0 Change privacy settings in Windows’ Settings app Disable telemetry in the registry Open a command prompt as Administrator, then type: sc config diagtrack start= disabled The space after start= is a must sc stop diagtrack Services changes - Hold the Windows key and press R, then type services.msc and choose OK. Background Intelligent Transfer Serivce – Automatic (Delayed Start) -> Manual Connected User Experiences and Telemetry – Automatic -> Disabled Diagnostic Policy Service – Automatic -> Manual Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) – Manual (Triggered) -> Disabled Windows Biometric Service – Automatic -> Manual WLAN Autoconfig – Automatic -> =================================================================================== Click START, type REGEDIT.EXE and press ENTER Key Expand KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\WindowsStore Right click and select NEW > REG_DWORDblock-windows-store Name it RemoveWindowsStore Set the value to 1
As you can see it's clean today, I don't see why Microsft needs to be connected to my pc all the time.
That said I know that Apple do this, But I think I trust them More <<< did I just say that¬ meh!

You are not a customer - your are an exploitable resource - get used to it.
There are a huge number of registry entries you can fiddle with to your hearts content to prevent Windows call home - all of which will be re-set by MS on the next available update - get used to it.

The following is based on (I assume) the same source as that of @30FTTC06 in Msg 5 but that post doesn’t really explain the process (sorry) so I hope the following will help.
First off if you do any of this, you do it at your own risk, so the first thing you should do is create a backup of your entire PC and or the registry. To back up the PC use your own solution or software of choice and for the registry you can either back up the section you’re editing (using r right click and Export) or create and use a System Restore point, the choice is yours.
Add Registry Keys :
Data Collection:- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\DataCollection Create a 32Bit DWORD key called AllowTelemetry with a value of 0 Cortana:- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Search Create a 32Bit DWORD key called AllowCortana with a value of 0
Windows Store:-
KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\WindowsStore Create a 32Bit DWORD key called Block-Windows-Store with a value of 1 To disable Windows Telemetry you can use SC CONFIG to stop Windows 10 from phoning home. sc config DiagTrack start= disabled sc config dmwappushservice start= disabled Reboot for these to take effect. Or use these two commands to terminate the services now. sc stop DiagTrack sc stop dmwappushservice Some service changes are also needed so with the Windows Key + R enter services.msc then click OK. Now set the following options; the value after the -> is what you need to set the ’Startup Type’ value to. To do this find the entry in the list of services and double click on it. If it’s not selected by default you want the ‘General’ tab. Background Intelligent Transfer Serivce -> Manual Connected User Experiences and Telemetry -> Disabled Diagnostic Policy Service -> Manual Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) -> Disabled Windows Biometric Service -> Manual WLAN Autoconfig -> Manual
Hope this helps.

If you would prefer a program to help control the Microsoft call home then give Spybot Anti-Beacon a shot https://www.safer-networking.org/spybot-anti-beacon/
Anti-Beacon is small, simple to use, and is provided free of charge. It was created to address the privacy concerns of users of Windows 10 who do not wish to have information about their PC usage sent to Microsoft. Simply clicking “Immunize” on the main screen of Anti-Beacon will immediately disable any known tracking features included by Microsoft in the operating system.
If any issues occur with your PC while using Anti-Beacon, undoing the changes made can be done by clicking the “Undo” button in the main window. This will re-enable all tracking services. If you experience any issues using Anti-Beacon or have any suggestions/recommendations, please be sure to let us know

As an alternative, O&O ShutUp 10 does something similar - free and very simple to use.

In a trial, I configured the internet connection as a dial-up connection.
This appeared to stop phoning home.

Glad to help @30FTTC06 it may not be as easy or convenient as the software options but at least you know what is being done, and of course, how to undo it.
