Re: Voip after FTTP, the practicalities.

I went this route:

https://www.voipfone.co.uk/hardware/adapters/grandstream-ht801-voip-adapter

Note, there is not a specific FAQ for setting up that unit on their website, as such, I was unable to get a cheap Ebay model to function, but the expensive £70+ preconfigured one from them worked flawlessly when plugged in. ( Needs fiddling if you want to set it up with a static IP address on your LAN, but not necessary to do so to have it work, just take you a while to find its IP address to login ! )

Now I have two of them, I should be able to copy the working settings to the other one and have a tested backup. 🙂

It has a REN of 5, and allowed me to plug my old telephones that was already wired up around the house into it, and it was as if nothing had changed. ( Though the ringtone has ! )

Oh, note, if you buy one preconfigured, it doesn't come with the default admin password, you have to ask them for it. 🙂

With full fibre, one Ethernet connection is used by the incoming Internet (WAN - Wide Area Network) connection. That gives you 3 ports for cabled devices including the Yealink base station.

For the avoidance of misunderstanding, though all 4 ports are physically 'Ethernet' only three of them are LAN ports, regardless of the carrier technology.  Used or not, the 4th port is only for WAN use.
