Re: Text from desktop computer

Reminds me. I used to just lurve sending people emails from my old Nokia 1100 2G phone - especially after they'd just told me: "You can't possibly email me from that thing! It doesn't even connect to the Internet."

Nokia 1100 - Wikipedia

But then, 2 weeks after the original Phone Hacking Scandal broke, the penny dropped:

"I know how they did that!"

Proving you can't beat the old advice: "RTFM!"

😁

No one is going to allow their platform to send SMS for free and anonymously because it would be a scammer charter.

Re: Text from desktop computer

Why are you needing to send a text from your desktop PC
windows 10 and 11 has a Phone link app, which sends text, but you need an Android or Apple phone to link the PC to

Re: Text from desktop computer

There are a couple of threads on this topic and I'm now unsure if the request is how do I email from my desktop.

So that could be using an email client like MS Outlook or Thunderbird.

Or via webmail using either :

@stathe

Would I be right in guessing that you are looking to use the fault reporting bot by using your computer in place of the mobile network?

I suggest that instead you ring in and if necessary wait in the queue, should there be one.

Re: Text from desktop computer

You can Whatsapp from your PC, if that helps.

It used to be the case - am not up to date with this and no longer have a landline to test it - that you could indeed ask by SMS text message for a test of a given landline. If still the case then indeed somebody else could use their mobile phone to test your landline:

Text 'PHONE <landline>' to 07800 008121
Text 'HELP <landline>' to 07800 008121

For BT landline:

Text 'PHONE <landline>' to 61998

(Also worked for a Plusnet landline)
