Power line adapter not working with new router.

Ive just recently joined Toob and only get 20-30mb via wired powerline adapters.

I have previously been using the adapters with PN router & BT hub for a years.

I simply just connected new toob router to adapters which were already synced.

I get full 900+ up and down via ethernet directly from router and about 4 to 600 via wifi around the house.

I have reset all adapters and resynced them but only get low speeds.

Any help would be appreciated.

@Faizan786

This Topic is fairly old but still relevant today.

Run Ethernet cable if you can.

Re: Power line adapter not working with new router.

Yes, as one of the people in the earlier thread suggested, you could try placing a PC where the router is and attempt to send and receive a file between two devices to see what speed you get.

I can't see what difference a different router makes. Have you asked in any forums for the touter or Toob? I doubt it will just be you that's having a problem and loads of people use powerline adaptors.

Re: Power line adapter not working with new router.

Toob doesn't have a forum like PN. Im concluding it can only be down to 1gb internet and old basic Simpler Networks adapters are not compatible. That is just me guessing as everything worked fine under PN/BT hub router for years.

What make and model are the powerline adapters?

Re: Power line adapter not working with new router.

The specification I find for these are

Maximum Powerline Data Rate: 200 Mbps (200AV rated)

I expect the LAN port speed is 10/100 mbps although not confirmed by me.

With the faster speeds offered with you new broadband I would image they are suffering from bufferbloat

Maybe time to say goodbye and buy something newer which support 1gb ethernet connection.

@Faizan786

What speed are you expecting through these ancient devices? Looking at the spec, under perfect conditions the very best speed they are capable of is less than 100 Mbps

My post crossed with Dan's

@Dan_the_Van

Do you know of any Powerline devices that will get anywhere near 1Gbps in real world conditions?

Personally I gave up on them years ago and installed Ethernet cabling. I assume that there has been some improvement since?

@Baldrick1

Sloopy post, ment a 1Gb LAN Port, you'll never see those speeds without using a cable.

My TP-Link TA4010 (600AV) which have a 100Mbps LAN port give me upto 90 mbps on a speedtest.

@Faizan786 adapters date back to 2010

Re: Power line adapter not working with new router.

I'm using the later 1Gb Tp-Link powerline adaptors and get between 250-500Mbs which is good enough for me as I only have the cheapest 150Mb plusnet fibre. A broadband speed check from one of my pc's shows 150Mb so the incoming speed seems to be the deciding factor.

For people for whom cabling isn't practical, they're worth checking, but take care to get the 1Gb+ ones. I've also bought pass-through adaptors so I can use the power socket as well.

Re: Power line adapter not working with new router.

Just did a check on my current installation of TP-Link powerline adaptors. These are the results, (shown on the pic from the TP-Link windoze app)...

Between a 1Gb adaptor and another one - 783Mb

To a second one  of the same spec - 671Mb

Between the 1Gb and a 600Mb one (used for my VOIP setup atm) - 322Mb

I think I'm correct in saying that the slowest powerline adaptor in the system will slow down all the rest so I'm going to change the 600Mb to another 1gb. I'd suggest, for those who are thinking of installing powerline adaptors they'd be better advised to go straight to the !Gb + plus.

Also, consider maybe using a couple of high speed, (possibly pass through to save a plug socket? :)) to extend your wifi across a large house as the drop-off in speed for a powerline setup is probably a LOT less than for wifi.

Something like this...

https://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-Link-Passthrough-Configuration-TL-WPA8631P-KIT/dp/B08LW5VPPV/ref=asc_df_...

Stick one without wifi on your router and the other near where you want the wife to go at the furthest distance. Press the wps button on the router and the button on the wifi powerline adaptor, hey presto - high speed wifi right where you need it Plues, (as you can see), you can also plug in up to 3 RJ45 cables.

There are other models with all sorts of different speeds, capabilities, etc. etc, so make sure you get what you need, (but NO MORE), at the lowest price.

I use tplink but others are available, obviously.

You articulate that so as to imply that things have changed - what were you achieving with the PN and BT hubs ... for years?  Is there actual evidence of change, or just the realisation that the speed over powerline adapters is not overly a function of the uplink speed or connection device?

Re: Power line adapter not working with new router.

I was on 43mb over wifi and powerline. Using speedtest over wifi got me 39 - 43 intermittently. Speedtests via powerline went straight to max 43mb without fail all the time for years.

Toob uses Linksys SPNMX56TB-UK. The 2.4ghz signal is weak as im getting low as 20-30mb via 2.4ghz and powerline, so currently using a ac1300 5ghz usb adapter to obtain about 250mb to 400mb over 5ghz signal.

Re: Power line adapter not working with new router.

Something odd there - changing the router ought not to change the performance of the powerline adapters / its WAP (I am assuming that your description refers to using the Power Line adapter WAP?).

The only potential change is that the powerline hub device is not connected to the router on a 1Gbps LAN port?
