Massive packet loss

I have been getting a delay when connecting to any website.

I have run a utility on my PC which shows that there is almost 100% packet loss to plusnet server 129.hiper04.sheff.dial.plus.net.uk. After 1 or 2 seconds it hands over to 128.hiper04.sheff.dial.plus.net.uk and all is then good.

I have tried reporting to plusnet but they do not deal with packet loss.

Can anyone on this forum report a possible problem with server 129?

Re: Massive packet loss

@dennish2 - what utility and are you able to share the output?

It is not end to end packet loss if subsequent servers are responding in good time. Not every 'hop' your traffic goes through is necessarily configured to respond to the ping requests I'm assuming the utility you're using is sending.

Re: Massive packet loss

I missed the reply here but the MTR trace isn't indicative of a problem. The third hop is just not configured to respond to ICMP packets.

Editing post as I replied to wrong post. Still hoping for a resolution here as I have a similar issue

Re: Massive packet loss

@JPYDX - your case is slightly different as you're seeing packet loss across the entire path. You'll have to let us know how the engineer visit goes. FYI, I did poke somebody earlier to see if we can see any correlation with other circuits on the same part of the Openreach network as you - no guarantee I'll get anywhere but will let you know if I do.
