Re: ISP PlusNet Launch Faster Hub Zero 2704n Broadband Router

I was advised that this was a decision made during the initial testing to keep things simple but it is possible that it could be changed

Do we know if this router was tested by customers, who know whats needed, or only by plusnet staff.  Undecided

As far as I know only by staff - I only got my sticky fingers on one after it was released
I don't think I am letting anything out of the bag but neither the Moderators nor the Usergroup (I asked them) were aware of it in advance

Re: ISP PlusNet Launch Faster Hub Zero 2704n Broadband Router

Does anyone know if the Plusnet 2704N comes with any GPL notice and offer to supply the source code for at least the parts of the firmware covered by the GPL? It appears Sagemcom made a less than half hearted effort to make some source code available at one time.

not sure if this is mentioned before in the thread, but you can get the Sagecom GUI using 192.168.1.254/expert_user.html
I can now reset the DHCP pool range as I have items on my network which must have fixed IP.

Re: ISP PlusNet Launch Faster Hub Zero 2704n Broadband Router

Ok - quickly unboxed this 2704n and had a look at the advanced settings - couldn't do much as I'm off to work.
No extra Wifi settings but ......
VPN -> L2TP Client PPP connection
LAN - IP address, subnet, IGMP snooping, DHCP on / off / range / lease time and static IP list.
IPV6 Config
NAT Port triggering
That should cover another few % of users who need to set a different IP address or set up static LAN routing on their router.

Re: ISP PlusNet Launch Faster Hub Zero 2704n Broadband Router

Hi All. Thanks for all the comments, feedback, suggestions. I've read them all. I just wanted to clarify a few things:
The decision to reduce the microfilters to 1 was a result of a trial we did last summer.  I go through all the returns in the warehouse and you can see that most people don't even use their filters (quite rightly) using the ones that they already have in situ. From today, any Plusnet advisor can send a customer an additional microfilter FOC from the warehouse. It should arrive next day if ordered by 2pm.
I'm no expert on standby mode for Broadcom SOC. I have checked the router (both ADSL and FTTC modes) and can tell you that these use a lot less energy than other routers that I have checked. I make the average (over a period of about 10 days) 3.4W for FTTC and 3.8W for ADSL but your mileage may vary ; ) The point is that this is well within the 2015 and even 2017 EU limits for this kind of device. The average consumption is less that what it would be allowed to consume on standby, however that is defined.
As many of you have correctly pointed out, this is meant to be a replacement for our previous routers. Will be great for most customers. It's easier to log in to and find what you are looking for. Many of the people reading this thread will be using 3rd party routers with more powerful chips and dual band Wi-Fi, Gigabit Ethernet etc.
A lot of people think it looks better than other routers we have shipped but beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
All the best,
Graham

Re: ISP PlusNet Launch Faster Hub Zero 2704n Broadband Router

my concern is that should my TG582N go faulty and plusnet provide a replacement, would i get this new 2704n or a TG582N?
i wouldn't be happy if i got a 2704n as a replacement as it appears to be of lower spec feature-wire than TG582N, and the features that appear to be missing are ones that i use.

Re: ISP PlusNet Launch Faster Hub Zero 2704n Broadband Router

@ Graham - Have you looked at the possibility of offering end users the option to pay more for a 'premium' router that is higher spec?

Re: ISP PlusNet Launch Faster Hub Zero 2704n Broadband Router

@Chenks76. For the time being, if your Technicolor is faulty, it would be replaced with a Technicolor. Eventually, though, we will run out of Technicolor and replace with the Sagemcom Plusnet Hub Zero. I wouldn't worry though. There's always going to be some kicking around the office and such. If your router goes faulty in the 12 months warranty period and you can't get a Technicolor let me know and I will see what I can do.
