Format HDD in caddy

I am running Mint 17.2 on a bootable usb stick..... no hdd is in the machine... but I have a hdd in a usb caddy that I want to format so I can re-install O.S. on a "clean" hdd....
How do I do this with Mint 17.2 please....

Boot the stick, open gparted with the hdd plugged in.
Select the HDD from the drop down menu,
Choose NEW partition table, then write (Return symbol)
Job done

Don't forget to format it with a filesystem of your choice.

If he is reusing to install an os on then the formatting is redundant as it will be overwritten.

Yes, I did re-install an O.S. on it.....  I just wanted a "clean" hdd to start off with... so foramatting seemed the way to go...
