I am trying to download a Thunderbird add-on, but Firefox insists on trying (and of, course, failing) to install it itself. i'm sure I have done this before, but I can't see a way to get FF just to download the XPI without trying to install it. Any ideas?
The add-on is this one, http://sourceforge.net/projects/tbstats/files/ if it helps.

I'll do it manually for now, but it would be useful to have a tool to do some of it.

Alternatively right click the link and save as. Then click Install at the bottom of the TB add-ons and browse to find the file you have just downloaded.
Edit: The first method works for the add-ons you get from Mozilla but not for that add-on from SourceForge

BTW I don't think this belongs in Linux s/w area as it is not a Linux specific issue (as detailed in the first message),

In any case the drag and drop method that works for official extensions is so easy and much quicker than downloading I don't see why people see this as an issue.

And yes, this applies equally to Windows, as both FF and TB are available for it, of course. Just I happen to use Linux here at home.
