Firefox Update has borked all my favourite addons

Re: Firefox Update has borked all my favourite addons

That's odd, may be a Windows thing then. I did originally try changing the settings in FireFox as mentioned by @VileReynard, but by this point I'd removed my AddOns and when I tried to reinstall ABP using the link above FF said it couldn't complete as it thought the AddOn was corrupt and that was with an 'up to date' version of FF.

Re: Firefox Update has borked all my favourite addons

fwiw. What I posted was from Mozilla themselves.

They did say not to remove any addons etc or to attempt any other 'fixes' like other user created methods.

I can't find the exact blog/notification/alert but the issue is mentioned here -

https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/2019/05/04/update-regarding-add-ons-in-firefox/

(I turned studies on after deleting all of my browser history etc etc etc, then ran studies, go my addons back and immediately turned off studies, deleted everything again, ran CCleaner, opened browser and it's all working fine)

I had deleted my addon by the time I read that @DS, prompting my move to WaterFox. Can you tell us what version of FF you have now please?

Re: Firefox Update has borked all my favourite addons

I almost did the very same, but luckily I thought I'd check the www

(more so as I was getting the download error as per shutter's post)

anyway, FF Quantum 66.0.3 (64-bit)

(the studies was only being used by Mozilla as a temp' get my addonds back quickly as I don't want to wait method)

Re: Firefox Update has borked all my favourite addons

I think the success of various fixing methods depends on the release "programme" of FF.

Mine worked because I'm on the ESR release... Crazy3 I believe using the development track would have also worked.

Current FF release = 60.6.1 esr (Extended Support Release)...

Re: Firefox Update has borked all my favourite addons

I'd guess to say you could well be right....?

I know a friend of mine whom elected to stay on W7 and every update of his FF browser always auto selects the ESR variant. He's not rang to ask me to sort his so there's a chance he had studies set to the default of enabled....?

I have no idea if the following is even worth a punt, but could possibly either reverting to an older version or indeed trying to restore FF from an existing device saved file (FF stores profiles IIRC) work for those whom have deleted their addons?

I've not actually looked into this in any great detail, nor would I jump in with my eyes closed, but:

Re: Firefox Update has borked all my favourite addons

Thanks for the input(s) guys.... and it is interesting to note that there is a fix... possibly the "studies" route is going to be the best, for now... Been out for a couple of hours.... so shut down the computer.... half expecting it to be all fixed  when I re-booted... but no....!

Tried to install "stylus"    and it reported that the addon was corrupted.... tried with a couple of other "variants" of the same thing.. and it reported that the download failed, to check internet connection.

so going to leave it for a while.... doing other more important stuff...! !

Re: Firefox Update has borked all my favourite addons

Fix

Well, I thought I'd try again, though it was 58 minutes I won't get back.

Fired up another laptop running FF 60.0.2 and the addons worked
Manually updated to 60.0.3 and immediately lost addons
Loaded privacy page and studies page, pressed F5 at roughly 5 minute intervals
Just under an hour later and studies installed the 'files' (so took longer than my laptop)

Shutdown FF, ran ccleaner, fired up FF and its like nothing was wrong.

Purely for comparison:

Re: Firefox Update has borked all my favourite addons

I'm using 66.0.3, but it asks whether I want to update to 66.0.4.  Should I wait?

Re: Firefox Update has borked all my favourite addons

That update wasn't there earlier! Huh

But to answer your question

(Well, someone has got to try it)

66.0.4 works fine too Smiley

edit. Undecided

A small number of add-ons may be listed as unsupported or may not appear in about:addons. Their data is not lost; users should be able to re-install the add-ons and recover the data (Bug 1549129). More support information

Though mine (as listed earlier) are all fine...
