Re: Digital Customers Only Connection on plusnet 2 hub

So, I've found various Grandstream HT801's on Amazon but they seem to suggest they require a battery. Don't these things come with a power adaptor? if so what's the battery for?

@SomeOldCodger
Looking at images on Ebay I would say it uses a mirco usb. Cable for power

Re: Digital Customers Only Connection on plusnet 2 hub

Ah, yes. I've just seen that on a youtube guide that another guy did for the HT801. I assume I can simply use a USB power socket adaptor, (of which I have a few spares), and the appropriate usb cable. I assume that's what another guy was mentioning when he said he could power his Gigaset ATA from the USB on his youter, thus saving a power socket. I might try that first and see if it works. If it doesn't I'll revert to plan 'B' and use the setup I just mentioned. Still not sure what the requirement is for a battery but, no matter Smiley

@SomeOldCodger

Would it have anything to do with power backup?

@SomeOldCodger

Amazon descriptions are not always accurate / reliable, so take the battery requirement with a pinch of salt.

I've even occasionally seen non-electrical items which require batteries!

Re: Digital Customers Only Connection on plusnet 2 hub

Right, so I think I'm getting there Smiley

I have my new fibre broadband up and running, (using it now :)), and have ordered and received a new Grandstream HT802, (it was cheaper than the HT901 on ebay), which I have running on my network ready for configuration.

However, the only problem is when I go to aa.net website my old landline number isn't one of the numbers I'm offered. I ASSUME that's because it hasn't been released by plusnet... although I'm not sure.

Does that seem likely?

I've sent aa.net an email asking them how to order so hopefully they'll get back to me but I was just wondering of others had a similar experience?

@SomeOldCodger have you made a port request of your landline number with A & A ?

It won't magically appear as an available number, you need to create an A & A account and request that your old number is ported in.

Re: Digital Customers Only Connection on plusnet 2 hub

So, have told AA about porting across to them from plusnet and my old phone number has appeared on my AA 'control page' and shown as 'port in pending' which seems OK. There was one thing that troubled me slightly when I was entering the port detail and that was AA said that my broadband would be cancelled for 'any numbers associated with that number' but I'm assuming that simply means my OLD plusnet broadband line... not the new one I've just had installed which is the entire point of setting up the porting from plusnet to AA, (via the fibre plusnet connection), in the first place Cheesy

Anyway, I assume that was just how it was worded and I guess others had a similar experience?

It looks like it will take a few days. I'll let you guys know when they say it's up and running. Then I need to sort out my new Grandstream HT802 thingie and we're all done Smiley

That's correct. Your number is no longer associated with your broadband connection and is currently in quarantine, awaiting porting to AA.

Re: Digital Customers Only Connection on plusnet 2 hub

There's a couple of things on the grandstream HT802 setup that are confusing me. The first is the settings I should use to handle firmware upgrades.

ATM my grandstream is showing software version 'boot 1.0.42.3' but the current version shown at https://www.grandstream.com/support/firmware is '1.0.63.3'.

The upgrade path that's set in the HT802 atm seems to be fm.grandstream.com/gs with a config server path of fm.grandstream.com/gs which seems to be different to the firmware upgrade path given, (which is  https://www.grandstream.com/support/firmware as stated).

On the other hand maybe I'm better off just leaving it on the version installed and trying that one first? Of course, until the line is up and running, (supposedly around 30/9 according to A&A), it's probably academic Smiley

If anyone has a similar setup maybe they can help when I get nearer the date of a working system. As already given, it's a plusnet 2 router in fibre, connected to a grandstream connected to my old 4 station panasonic phone system. It's about as standard as you can get I'd think.

My understanding is that there are only a few settings I need to change on the grandstream. I believe it's barely into double figures as I just want to make and receive calls... that's it Smiley

@SomeOldCodger

Yes, you can set it up with very few configuration settings. However, be aware that it will not give you uk ring tones etc. You can set them to uk tones but that’s more confoluted.
