DNS Propagation - severe delay

Hi, hoping there is someone here who has some experience of this. I made changes to the MX records for a domain on 17th August 2020. A month later there are still DNS servers throughout the world that are showing the old MX records, see https://dnschecker.org/#MX/lighthouseprojectcrawley.org

Anything showing 0:lighthouseprojectcrawley.org has still not caught up with the change, which was done when the domain was converted to use G Suite. I am used to changes taking a day or two to propagate but this is ridiculous. The TTL value on the records is 3600. Is there anything I can do to resolve this?

Right, I now know why this is happening, there is a discrepancy between the results being returned by the two authoritative name servers. I just need to work out how to fix it ...

one of the authoritive nameservers probably missed the zone update somehow. If it were me i'd change the mx record temporarily and then change it back. Hopefully it'll get through to all the authoritive NS's.

I agree with @7up 

Change it to something else, see if it works. You can always do an MX 10 (the server you want it to be), or an MX 20 (worst case it will still go there).

If all goes well, then change it back.

That's how I have my e-mail hosted, stressful - but good fun when you get it right.

EDIT: 48 hours for DNS changes to take effect, so two days.

Thanks for the responses, I had tried making a small change to see if that kicked it into action but it didn't work. I think the problem is that some of the nameservers are "stale" and not getting the updates. Anyway I have redelegated the name servers to 123.reg and made the changes there as I don't trust 365 Hosts to sort out a rather esoteric problem.

DNS changes are always stressful, it can take 2 days to know if they've worked. If you make a mistake, all your e-mails bounce (not good for anyone). When they start going through to the new server, then you're happy.

Indeed they can be stressful. I set up the DNS yesterday and redelegated the name servers this morning. We're getting there but strangely dnschecker.org lags well behind whatsmydns.net in picking up the changes.

I use afraid.org's freedns service to manage my dns. It's reliable and lets you setup whatever records you want giving you fuller control than most registrars will.

@7up Thanks, but I don't think I'd be happy with the free service and there is little point in paying for something I don't have to.

Although the free service does have some set backs, it's incredibly reliable. It also allows you to change your dns settings far quicker and easier. It's not for everyone but i thought i'd mention it.
