BBCi player on Freesat box

If you have a Foxsat (Humax) Freesat receiver you can connect it to your broadband router with a network cable. Switch on and go to any BBC channel with a Red Button. Press Red and wait 'til it loads, enter 5483, wait for it to load and you then have BBCi player.
I bought 10 metres of Cat5e cable, some end plugs and a crimping tool (very necessary) from Maplins. It's very fiddly fitting the first plugs and there are at least 3 different ways to connect the different colour wires but check your existing LAN cable. It took about 2 hours to connect the router upstairs with the Foxsat and TV downstairs and the result is as good as regular TV.
Only hope the Plusnet network can handle the traffic.

Alternatively, use get_iplayer to download, burn to a DVD and play it.
Quality is higher than flash, but inferior to proper HD.

just been through the Freesat web about the iPlayer, http://bbciplayerbetatrial09.freesat.co.uk/index.php?page=iPlayer.faq it doesnt tell you much.
A) it says you need a TV licence, that is not correct if it isnt a live broadcast
B) it has sneaked the PN mybroadbandspeed test, hope they got permission
C) exactly how do the programs come to the home, it seems that you have to have a connection of at least 1m, does that mean it is not actually down loading from the Sat?

A) I would naturally assume this is correct as you need a TV licence for the freesat part, without the licence you can't have freesat as that is "live" TV and is a device for watching live TV which does require a licence (to watch iPlayer on the internet doesn't - yet - require a licence)

yes I read that, but what or where does the download come from, is it the Sat or like the plain vanilla,  terrestrial internet

thats what I thought, so why the Sat connection?

It needs to have a dish plugged in to it so it can receive Freesat broadcasts.
A part of the broadcast signal is the coding that allows the BBC programs to have the Red button feature that launches the iPlayer functionality.
On other channels the Red Button will do something different - indeed on BBC the landing page for the interactive services will differ according to the program being shown.
