Android Tablet - USB to OTG problem

Cheapo Android tablet... boots up. everything works, except the USB/OTG ...

It used to run the USB to OTG cable with 4 usb ports. 1 for small keyboard, 1. for Mouse.. 1 for USB memory stick and a spare !.

Must have done something wrong somewhere.. cos nothing works on the USB OTG connection now.

looked on the Playstore for apps for USB to OTG

installed   USB host controller.... which reported

USB host controller v1.10 root hub present

USB host mode is active

Still no usb facility.

so.. did a USB host check app run.... it reported

android.hardware.usb.host.xml        X

handheld_core_hardware.xml          X

tablet_core_hardware.xml                X

There was a "FIX" option.. which I dobbed on ! .. it reported  "could not start su process"

tablet system info.jpg

Device name is  TABLET-PC (7" screen)

Device is   Polaris-a7OH

Model TY_Q8H

Build i.d. is JDQ39

I tried a couple of OTG / USB drivers... but all they did was to turn the horizontal (landscape)  presentation into a HUGE mobile phone vertical ( portrait ) presentation...  Not a good thing... and only way I could get rid of that ( the auto rotate was not locked but did not work) .was to force boot into "Reset" mode using the power button and volume button together.  then start again...

Anyone got any ideas on how to get the USB/OTG working again, Please.....

Note.. this machine cannot be rooted... as it is "locked"..
