Re: After EE switch-over one device won't connect

@pvmb  "Well yes, why wouldn't it?"

I don't know. I'm just prepared to clutch at straws to try and get this working.

In answer to your questions I have been able to log into my Greenby account. Interestingly the client settings for the email account don't seem to bear any relation to those in Thunderbird that have been working for months. This is what is shown:

ClientSetts.jpg

and these are the settings for the incoming mail in Thunderbird:

I have also logged into webmail and tried sending a test message which appears to have been successful.

Re: After EE switch-over one device won't connect

@Buggwrit

The normal settings for someone with a Plusnet account, using POP protocol would be -

Incoming Server Address:  imap.plus.net [91.204.208.26] (aka mail.plusnet.enmail.co)
Protocol: POP
Port:  995 (Encryption Enabled)

Outgoing Server Address:  relay.plus.net [212.159.8.107]
SMTP Port:  465 (Encryption Enabled)

However, you can see above that relay.plus.net is in the Plusnet domain IP address range. Whereas relay.force9.net [91.204.208.196] is in the Greenby/Enix domain IP address range, as is  mail.plusnet.enmail.co [91.204.208.26] (same IP as imap.plus.net/mail.plusnet.enmail.co) so, if you have now left Plusnet, you may have to use one of these servers instead of relay.plus.net  [212.159.8.107] to send mail.

Although mail.plus.net [91.204.208.26] that you quote as using for sending SMTP mail is also a Greenby/Enix domain host, it is the IP address for incoming mail - imap.plus.net [91.204.208.26]

Thanks @Dan_the_Van  and @PhilipHeyes . After reading the link on setting up compatible wi-fi I really thought that would be the answer.

Unfortunately it hasn't made any difference. I first enabled the compatible 2.4GHz wi-fi but that didn't help. I then tried turning the non-compatible 2.4GHz off but again no difference. I've tried restarting the PC and then finally resorted to trying the 'Manage wireless networks' in the Network and Sharing Centre and manually adding both the standard and -Comp network names to the list, with the -Comp at the top which Windows will try first.

Still nothing. When I open 'Connect to a network' neither of them appear in the list, just neighbouring networks. Very frustrating.

Just to comment on the WiFi element: -

Compatible WiFi won't work as it still uses WiFi6/AX and I strongly suspect this is the crux of your issue. I've seen it before with older network cards using Reatek chipsets (which I believe this Asus card might).

Plenty of reports of similar out on the Internet e.g. here.

Re: After EE switch-over one device won't connect

Hi Bob, yes I've come to the conclusion it's a protocol problem. I investigated newer PCI-e cards but I strongly suspect they won't support Windows 7. I'm currently investigating whether I can arrange a suitable route for a twisted-pair connection to the hub. The PC that I'm sending this from is a wired connection but the location of the problem one is more awkward which is why I opted for wi-fi.

Re: After EE switch-over one device won't connect

@Buggwrit are you still dealing with Password failure from relay.force9.net ?

If Yes :

1) make sure the Username is the email address of the mailbox  ( i.e. not <account>+<name> and not an alias )

2) relay.force9.net is a server hosted and managed via the Greenby portal,  use the Greeny portal to reset the password and it will be applied to the force9 servers for  imap, pop3 & smtp

Changing passwords in the Plusnet portal does not change the password of relay,force9.net or for any other Greenby hosted mail servers that have an IP in for form : 91.xxx.xxx.xxx
