Accessing Streetmap

Ever since I posted about Bing Maps becoming less than useful, I have been using Streetmap, but for the last two weeks or so I have been unable to get it. Has any other person had problems too. When I try, it times out

Thankyou for any help

Re: Accessing Streetmap

I use it a lot, but probably not in the last fortnight.

It's currently timing out for me too. Really hoping it's a temporary problem!

Re: Accessing Streetmap

Street map has been in legal battles for years with Google which they appear to have lost.  One wonders if they have finally bitten the dust.  I’ve also read of issues related to licensing changes in respect of OS maps.

Ironically in response to “has streetmap uk closed down?” Google AI reports…

Yes,

Streetmap.co.uk has effectively ceased operations, though not with a formal "closed down" announcement, as users on forums noted it was down and unavailable recently (January 2026), following its previous legal battles with Google and a shift away from detailed Ordnance Survey (OS) mapping, with users now turning to alternatives like Promap for detailed OS maps.

Re: Accessing Streetmap

Firstly, I have no idea why Google would or could become an "interested party" in this. I'd be interested whether anyone has any clue Google think they need to be involved.

Secondly. Streetmap haven't been using the latest OS mapping since several years. The irriating fact for me is that I have an extensive collection of OS (paper-based) maps. Which also enables me to check what version of data Streetmap is providing. (Yup, they are/were serving up out-of-date stuff.)

Farewell the humour associated with features on OS maps (I won't post directly because some will fall foul of filters)

However, attached is a .txt file with Streetmap URLs (which have embedded grid references, so finding them on paper maps isn't impossible).

Slightly disappointed to see no mention of Lord Hereford's Knob (YouTube - grid ref in lyrics)

Just do the research …

I guess your mindset is in the space of Google suing Street map, but that would be wrong.  There is though no affirmative statement that the service has closed but just inference in that it is and has remained off air.
