poor speed

I recently moved from BT to plusnet and took the priority line for gaming but have found no difference in speed fluctuations

Re: poor speed

The speed appears to slow down during peak times.
This is more than likely Exchange congestion (and would affect any service, regardless of ISP - over BTs network)
Check Your Exchange
Im expecting the "VP Capacity" to be RED (this means its congested)
The only way this will improve is if BT upgrade the capacity at the exchange (it can take some time, maybe months - even years...)
please report back ! Smiley

Seeing no difference may be more normal than you think. I don't think from what you've said that the issue is specific to traffic management. If you had said my speeds are slower on Plusnet than compared to my previous ISP I would then be concerned.
With regards to VPs, I've checked and yours is on amber status. I've e-mailed our suppliers to see if any upgrades are planned. I'll get back to you about this ASAP.

Re: poor speed

Very rare to see Plusnet staff on here over the weekend so don't expect an answer back from Adam till next week.

Re: poor speed

Jim I would be more concerned with ping times if it's gaming your into.
I'm not sure if game data is throttled during peak hours (probably is to make you upgrade), but I've happily gamed for years on various providers and it is fine as long as the ping is reasonable.
In my case, my ping has gone from 30ms to anything over 60ms in the last six months. Now it's junk and ruining online gaming.
I would upgrade but I don't think for a minute it will be any better.
Besides, at present I barely have a connection and no one has an answer for me.
I would check your pings and if you find you have constantly junk pings form 'multiple sources' then downgrade immediately and save your money.
Oh and everyone near me on talktalk LLU get pings of 30ms and less on the standard package, but I would never touch them myself.

Re: poor speed

No need for the constant swearing danny, also if you stick at your thread, you should be able to get through to a resolution. Smiley
Unfortunately faults like this can take time, and because their on LLU they wouldnt be affected by BT-based congestion.

I only said cråp - in french!  Roll_eyes
Besides, I thought plusnet promoted themselves as the 'Yorkshire Company', so they should allow a Yorkshireman to say [Censored].
Besides, I was not just complaining about my problem here, my point was; in my opinion the OP should save his money and go extra or another isp.

Problem is Danny, is thats not particularly sound advice. IF the issue is caused by VPs - the issue will occur on *all* BT provided ISPs (and in the same manner, and same amounts)
Only way round this is to go with an LLU company, or hope its some other random issue which can be dropped out. I may have appeared harsh, just didnt want this thread to be 'hijacked' into dealing with a problem other than the OP  Wink
And sadly *MOST* LLU providers (in my opinion) are not up to scratch. other people swear by them, BT have their faults but generally things are 'alright in the end'

I have to disagree, it's very sound advice.
Admittedly my mistake was to forget to say LLU (a big mistake  ::)), but there are LLU providers on most exchanges now.
In my job I work with it all, have to say that time and again the LLU providers provide the best sync rates, best download speeds and best pings.
No I'm not biased towards anyone, but the LLU providers I've experienced are doing it - and doing it better than pathetic BT Wholesale in my opinion.
Though I can only comment on my experience in a somewhat rural area, perhaps their equipment is up to scratch in big towns and cities.
