Unlimited traffic hitting traffic shaping limits

Just to point out - the unlimited service (my case fibre - but could apply to ADSL connections too) is hitting traffic shaping limits.
Usenet / P2P is as low as 800Kb/sec during peak times - I can do 80Mb/sec off peak hours!
Traffic shaping rules for Unlimited product were quite clear when lauched, all traffic Gold except P2P/Usenet which is Bronze, however Plusnet manage the bandwidth requirements to ensure that bronze traffic is not dropped unless some sort of major incident and therefore should be expected at line speed at all times.
Well there is no major incident this evening - yet 800Kb/sec instead of 80Mb/sec is some serious traffic shaping i.e. PlusNet require a massive purchase of additional bandwidth to stop these traffic limits being hit - which was their promise when they launched the unlimited service wasn't it.

Shouldn't be!  Is your normal traffic unaffected?  We'll check tomorrow!

Re: Unlimited traffic hitting traffic shaping limits

Tam can you run a thinkbroadband speed test please. If that runs full speed it's a traffic management issue. It that is also slowed it could be something else.

TBB taken just now - http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results.html?id=13899095349354312941
speed tests taken earlier whilst usenet running at snails pace - see time stamps in images for the times.

Re: Unlimited traffic hitting traffic shaping limits

That confirms it's not the same issue that others are reporting at present with massive fibre slowdowns during peak times. They are seeing the tbb speed test significantly slowed as well.

Re: Unlimited traffic hitting traffic shaping limits

I suspect we've got a profile mismatch meaning you aren't authenticated on the DPI platform and you are getting the default profile, which has rate limits on P2P/Usenet.  Dave will have a dig tomorrow.

Re: Unlimited traffic hitting traffic shaping limits

There's a simple way to prove that it's a traffic management/capacity issue - the Pro add on. It shouldn't make a difference if Plusnet are keeping their Unlimited promise to always have sufficient capacity.
Kelly - if he tries it will you credit the cost?
Edit: If it's a profile mismatch might a disconnect/reconnect bring it back in line? Worth a try?

Re: Unlimited traffic hitting traffic shaping limits

Usually when this happens, adding pro helps because it pushes a new profile out to the DPI platform and they stop being on the old default profile.  No guarantees if will work, but if you want to try it, go for it and we'll refund the cost.

Re: Unlimited traffic hitting traffic shaping limits

Rebooted a number of times to try different gateways this evening - all the same  Angry
This is the latest one done just after the TBB speed test you requested  http://www.tamlync.com/plusnet/speed/pcl-ag06-1.png
Previous history this evening....
PCL-AG08
Speed test = 60/16
TBB 1Gb test file = 8.03MB/s
Usenet = 2.93MB/s
PTN-AG03
Speed test = 53/16
TBB 1Gb test file = 7.22MB/s
Usenet = 1.14MB/s
PTW-AG01
Speed test = 63/18
TBB 1Gb test file = 7.61MB/s
Usenet = 1.78MB/s
PCL-AG04
TBB 1Gb file = 7.54MB/s
Usenet = 1.43MB/s
PCL-AG07
Usenet = 1.41MB/s

I have screenshots of most of the above speeds listed too..

Re: Unlimited traffic hitting traffic shaping limits

It shouldn't but if you see no difference in say ten minutes give that a try.

Now coming in at 7MB/sec + so all good again - but also - now no longer peak time.... will have to see what tomorrow brings - although if i have pro - i guess that it'll stay full whack anyway..

I thought it won't start until your next billing date?
