Re: Some Disapointment with the provided hub two.

@warescouse you do realise that its perfectly acceptable to use your own router ?

Providing it can be configured for a PPPoE WAN connection it will work just fine. In fact PLusnet provide the information here https://www.plus.net/help/broadband/broadband-connection-settings/ to help you with the required settings

Re: Some Disapointment with the provided hub two.

Fix

RE: Own router. That is my plan when my virgin contract finally gets shut off in a week or two. I currently have a good router with freshtomato firmware in use with virgin in modem only mode with a few virtual wirelesses  setup (one specifically secure for iot's etc with each address a separate public network )and another one I just swich on for 'guests' when required for friends etc who ask for access). However while I have a bit of time on my side before running out my contract I wish to get the best I can out of hub two should the need arise to use it as backup. Ideally, swapping over to the plusnet hub two in an emergency needs to be as smooth as possible and I really don't want to do more reconfiguring than necessary. in that scenario -). (Perhaps a cheap 2nd hand decent back up router may be the answer?) I'm paranoid on online security to a fault.

I thnk I am up to speed on plusnet hub two capabilities and with a bit of browsing  I noted that some other rival hub 2 firmware allegedly forces https on administration in the hub making security just that little bit better. I think plusnet coud do a little better to at least give that an optional feature.

I'm very impressed by the helpful forum responce and greatly thankful to all who gave time and advice on this issue. Incidently, the gentleman I spoke to on the plusnet support phone line prior to accessing this forum apparently knew far less than yourselves. He said changing router local addresses couldn't be done and with your help -   it could be done 🙂

The Hub 2 gui can only be accessed from the LAN, there's no option to allow WAN access, so the need for https is somewhat moot.

One of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cudy-WR3000E-Gigabit-WireGuard-Supported-White/dp/B0DMNXXNTG/ref=asc_df_B0D... may be worth looking at. They can can re-flashed with OpenWrt very easily. If you're getting an FTTP connection , then it can be connected directly to the ONT, if its still FTTC then you can switch the Hub 2 to bridge mode and use it as the modem.
