Today marked the day when I finally upgraded from FTTC to FTTP and I must admit I was both looking forward to it and dreading something major going wrong in about equal measures! Pleased to report though that it all went well, indeed better than expected....
I'm quite fussy about things like blown bricks when drilling through walls, neatness of cabling inside etc, so I took the liberty of drilling my own hole through the wall and also sinking a backbox on the inside within which I was hoping the engineer would be happy to coil up some slack in the lead-in fibre to give me some flexibility about where the ONT was going to end up as I am currently completely gutting and rewiring the room it's in and wasn't quite sure what the neatest end result would be. Not only was he happy to use the hole I'd made but given the backbox he said he had a cradle in the van that could be mounted directly on it so the ONT could be housed there too rather than it being mounted on the wall above it as I'd assumed would be required.
Within an hour of them arriving (had two engineers for some reason, which must of course help) I was back online like nothing had happened, albeit with now with double my previous speed. Result!
