Re: Plusnet & newsgroups suck

What a company !!!!!!!!!!!
If i want to leave today talk about getting money for old rope, i get 10% of what i could reasonably expect in speeds on my first day and then i have to pay £336 to leave and go to an isp that probably would not have the contention problems that Plusnet would have if they didnt manage their network. If the network had proper serious capacity you wouldnt need to manage it.
Please stop hiding behind terms and conditions that are NOT clear and concise they are misleading & vague. The use of them is a get out clause that enables you to say any speed is reasonable and almost that i should be greateful for it. I hope as a company and employees of said company you are proud of the misleading information you provide on the website and i for one wont be able to leave this rubbish isp quick enough. I hope before you delete this post (which i have no doubt you will) other people read it and it serves as a warning to NOT to join Plusnet or to leave as soon as possible.

I'm confident it won't be deleted as it's not that kind of Forum.

I can assure you we will not be deleting your post as the community forum moderators are customers, not employees of Plusnet and it's associated vISP's and they do not moderate these fora.
Whilst you might just have a justification for your rant, I would suggest you calm down a little bit.

Re: Plusnet & newsgroups suck

Why would i want to clam down a bit ?
I am not happy at being charged £336 for 1 day of lousy low speed broadband, and if you can say that you would just take that in your stride without being a bit irate i would be more than a little suprised .

When you signed up, there is a 'More Info' link which takes you to a page which explains the rate limiting in place. The rate limiting is clearly explained, and the expected experience clearly outlined.
Also during signup, you will have been presented with the terms and conditions, which you needed to accept.  These will have explained your contractual obligations.
If you schedule your Usenet downloads to off-peak, you will receive near line-speed most of the time.  If you want line speed during the day, then the Pro upgrade is probably your best bet.

Re: Plusnet & newsgroups suck

Well I've been away for a few weeks and being doing lots of  catchup on Usenet groups - I've not noticed a problem?  Things seem to be working quite well.   Calm down and let us have some detail of router stats etc and someone will help you get things sorted.   1 day is too short to form a valid opinion.

Re: Plusnet & newsgroups suck

Can we establish what Usenet  you are downloading from as the problem may not be with Plus net but the Usenet.
Are you doing anything else while connected to the Usenet  like running P2P?
Are you using wireless or a cable to connect, if wireless that could cause low speeds if it has a problem.
The purpose of these forums is to help people and replies are from customers like your self in order to help we need the facts. You may be angry but we cant help you if you dont let us

Re: Plusnet & newsgroups suck

I also migrated in from Zen where I had full sync and still have, I do use newsgroups occasionally and have tried them a couple of times after midnight since I migrated on Friday, the first time it was slow but not that slow to cause a problem , 2nd time was fine so my conclusion was that it was the news server and not my connection on BBYW option 3

Re: Plusnet & newsgroups suck

I'm a regular newsgroup user, and consider it an important part of my connectivity on the net.
I've not had a problem with newsgroups her on Plusnet.

Re: Plusnet & newsgroups suck

Text newsgroups are fine. It is binary newsgroups that seem to be causing you this problem. This difference should have been explained to you. Plusnet's own Giganews feed doesnt support binary.

If you had any idea of what you were talking about and had read the speed test results and my previous posts you would realise it isnt a router problem (ITS A TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT PROBLEM)

Correct i DID read the limits and it said i should expect to receive

Plusnet Unlimited expected maximum downstream speeds

128Kbps 8pm to 10pm & 256Kbps 10pm to 11pm

However the point that you seem to be missing is that i was getting just over 10% of what i should reasonably expect to get also when i signed up coveniently NOT mentioned yet by anyone in this thread is Plusnets own rhetoric of

Plusnet Unlimited is designed for serious Internet users and is ideal for all Internet activities.

Now as you can imagine it clearly ISN'T ideal for all internet activities and i think you will find that under the Sale of Goods Act that statement is more than a little misleading
I am going to contact Which today as i am a memebr and i will happily report back here what they say
As regards Plusnet they must be seriously short of money to enforce an 18 month contract on a customer who found their service deficient within a few hours and manage to wriggle out of the cancellation rights by saying as soon as you use the service you forfeit the right to cancel (not sure that is entirely correct or legal) How are you supposed to find out that the service is sub standard if you dont use it at least once ?

If Plusnets service is as wonderful as many of you lot say they would have no issues with letting me leave/migrate because they surrely have no lack of customers wanting to join ?

Re: Plusnet & newsgroups suck

Hi Keefy,
This isn't a traffic management problem - it's the system working as it's designed to, as per the expected speeds page that you've had a look at.
Quote
128Kbps 8pm to 10pm & 256Kbps 10pm to 11pm

Are you confusing Kilobits and Kilobytes? 128Kbps is 16KB/s and 256Kbps is 32KB/s.  What speeds are you actually getting?

Re: Plusnet & newsgroups suck

What speed though - I think James wants you to quote it in either KB/s or Kb/s
The difference being a factor of eight.
Is the speed you are getting followed by KB/s (note capital B) or Kb/s (Note lower case b, sometimes written as kbps)

Re: Plusnet & newsgroups suck

Lmao
Currently these are the expected line speeds for usenet at this time of day
til 12 midday = Line Speed
Well i am getting between roughly 0KB/s and 2.2KB/s with an overall average of 0.4KB/s
perhaps now u can see why i am so [Censored] off ?
