New Broadband account reduction in quoted speed

When I signed up for PlusNet Broadband and home phone, the CS Op said he had just measured my Broadband line speed, and it was showing at around 17mb/s, being close to the exchange.
Yesterday I received a progress notification, which shows my expected line speed at only 7mb/s
Some reduction, why is this ?
I will of course wait until my 10 days line speed testing is up, but I do hope it is nearer the 17mb/s figure initially quoted, after measurement !

Still a lot faster than my old mobile BB !!

You hit the nail on the head there. The speeds should gradually increase towards your original estimate during the line training period.
