Re: Migration Query

Yeah I can do that but see little point as my router is not the problem but BT not recognising I can sync at a higher speed, its simple maths really........
If my router was having a problem then it may be worth trying what you are suggesting.......but snr is solid, its just the sync doesnt rise.....
Anyway just done some more testing while the football and tennis is on.....pings have gone up to approx 150ms (understandable), but download speeds are fine, not erratic as per yesterday....
So I don't think there is a fault as such, just need to somehow get BT and or their equipment at the exchange to recognise I should sync higher......
Some sort of re-set to training period as you mention may help.....

Re: Migration Query

I'd like you to try it first to appease my curiosity first though please Smiley
You know me well enough to know that I'll pick it up with BT but I want to make sure your router is doing what it should be.

Just tried as you suggested.......sync speeds didnt change but my download speed dropped from 2700 down to 1500......to make sure it wasn't a coincidence I tried it 3 times and each time my download went down and back up again when switching back to Auto (multi mode).........so I have switched back to as it was......
My router notes also recommend Auto (multi mode).....see below.....
"DSL Mode - In almost all cases Auto mode, the default, will work well. In rare cases setting the mode to ADSL mode or ADSL2+ mode instead of automatically negotiating the mode may resolve interoperability issues".

Re: Migration Query

Apparently BT have put noise protection on my line and that is why the upload sync is poor and why I cant sync as I should be download wise either......
This is what I was told in my ticket today.....
"There is noise protection on the line which may be keeping the line stable, with the current settings this is why the upstream speeds are at 444. We can either request that the noise protection is removed after which point either the line will remain stable or then the line may experience possible issues which will result in the noise protection been applied again."
I replied this......
"Thanks,
Please can you get BT to remove the noise protection.....
How long will it take?
There was some noise on the line which I fixed as found the connector in the back plate of the master socket to be dirty, once I cleaned it the noise went, so I am sure noise protection is not required now....."

Re: Migration Query

I was advised today that the noise protection removal has been requested.......

I assume BT did the noise protection removal tonight as around 9pm we lost the phone and internet for around 10 mins....phone came back but no internet which has only come back about 1 hour ago.....now we are syncing lower than before....
I can see we still have an SNR margin of 9db so its clear we are still on noise protection or some sort of BT garbage as before.....
This is really pathetic, please can you pass this ticket back to James at complaints lead as I am going to complain to ISPA again if this joke situation is not sorted....

Re: Migration Query

Hi Jim,
I'll flag this up to James again. It would be worth letting our faults team have a look at this in the meantime as we haven't yet had confirmation that the noise protection has been removed. I'll ask someone to have a look at this shortly for you.

Re: Migration Query

Hi Jim,
I'd be more confident in our faults team looking into this in the first instance (and I'll have a word with one of the more senior members of the team).
Will feedback.

Re: Migration Query

Jim,
We (or rather Rami) has put a request in with the ADSL2+ Tech Team (@BT) to reset the DLM on your line to allow your upstream to improve.
We've also asked that they stop limiting it in the future.

Re: Migration Query

Thanks James / Adam / Rami,
Lets hope BT can manage to do that without cocking it up for the umpteenth time!
So was last nights loss of internet due to the noise protection removal?

Re: Migration Query

Looks like my upload is capped again after whatever they did last night as its now the dreaded 448, dont know if the DLM re-set will fix that, if not can you ask them (BT) yet again to uncap the upload......

Re: Migration Query

Isn't that a 4Kbps increase? Wink
I'm not certain if anything specifically happened last night.

BT must have been doing something for us to lose the phone for 10 mins and the internet.....I checked with the neighbours and their phones and internet were ok, so seemed to just be us.....

Re: Migration Query

Very unlikely that a DLM change would cause that though.
You may want to speak to BT Retail as we have no control over your phone line itself.
