A report released by uSwitch today has highlighted the rising cost of technical support for broadband users in the UK. Consumers spend over £34 million per year calling broadband helplines, on top of the £2.8 billion spent on their broadband service.

The worst offenders appear to be Orange with their 'starter' customers paying up to £22 to resolve a single issue, with call costs of 50p per minute.

PlusNet scored favourably with the uSwitch team and are described as offering "an exemplary 4.5p off-peak flat rate for the first 60 minutes of any technical support call" We are naturally delighted that uSwitch has recognised our efforts to deliver a high level of service when providing our customers with technical advice and highlighted that we don't charge extortionate prices to do so. According to the report UK customers spend £12 million per year listening to hold music, with an average call length of 17 minutes. Last month, our average total call time was just over 12 minutes, with our first time fix rate of 60.5% comparing favourably to the 40% industry average. Our Customer Satisfaction survey over the last 3 months has revealed that 73% of customers are happy that their telephone queries are dealt with efficiently and we are always looking to offer the advice and support that our customers are looking for.
