End of Day: 3rd April

End of Day: 3rd April

Another busy day particularly for the team who came in the very early hours (2am!) to put live the improvements to our anti-spam platform (Postini) and its Manage My Mail interface.  The team involved in this project have been working exceptionally hard on this project for the past couple of months and I'm proud to have seen them put the project live at last.  Of course few projects as complex as this one suffer no hiccups and we worked closely with customers in the forums this afternoon, to identify and fix problems as they were reported to us. A quick round-up then; Colin had volunteered to edit the EOD today but I've stepped in whilst he helps the development/networks teams with their problem fixing. Chris updates us from Comms: Woweeeee what a hectic day here in Commsland. This morning saw the rollout of the new Manage My Mail tool so Bob's day has been completely taken up with the issues that have arisen from this; along with the Usenet issue from yesterday. Mand has been passing problems around to the appropriate departments whilst also performing many various tasks simultaneously. James has been seen in a variety of forums and looking into some referral queries, this is when he wasn't moaning that I made everyone else tea apart from him. There was a reason behind this, yesterday a miracle happened. James made tea for us. However he used cups crusted with that morning's lattes.  To make matters worse he didn't even clean them or give us our own cup back! Therefore he doesn't get made tea until he makes a proper round in clean cups. I've been busy creating a new Excel template sheet for our customer satisfaction survey results, including rewriting the formulas within it (oooh get you Mr Smartypants - Ed).  I've also popped around a couple of forums and looked at some problems. Martyn has this for us from Marketing: Neigh! Don't worry, I haven't turned into a horse, I'm just getting in the mood for the Grand National on Saturday. We've all picked out our horses, with Nick getting a couple of 100/1 shots (good luck with those!). We've done some work too of course, with Chris getting the newsletter into shape and testing it in a gazillion email clients. I've been re-writing an email that is sent as part of our My Referrals programme and we've also been cracking on with prototypes for a mini-site. Chris has tidied his desk too, although I notice he's still got some of his stuff spilling over to my desk. I'll get that moved... Stephen from Dev: I've been asked to do today's EOD posting too as I didn't write much yesterday, due to being busy - DOH! (idea! maybe if I do less work I can write longer EODs, as I'm sure there's loads of random/quirky facts I could come up with.. *me thinks*). (Hey..if you want to write random facts use the chit chat forum - Ed) Today has been like yesterday overall - gone by really quick, so much to do in so little time. (I know the feeling..)  It looks as if the hardware order problems we're currently working on are coming towards the end, which is nice. Department-wise, most are working on the 2nd phase of the MAAF project and - just this moment - Colin's started working on a P1 too. Finally for today, Lee has this update from Networks: Mainly we have been mostly Postini-ing following the rollout of Manage My Mail, lots of monitoring, working on Ellacoya DB resilience and usual fun round of problems and the like... Indeed.  I know we say it a lot, but today has been a particularly busy one for many of us.  It's satisfying though when we make good progress and I hope that, once the glitches are ironed out, both you our customer, and our network, will feel the benefit of the work we released today; to better deal with the sheer volumes of spam we all experience.
