Re: [solved] Re: VPN port forwarding outgoing blocked

I found the Hub two DHCP server not to be the best, not being able to define a fixed IP Address to devices MAC address until it connected unsatisfactory.

I now use a TP-Link router which has WiFi 6 and WPA3 which keeps iPhone/iPad happy about security.

So for my raspberry pi based Wireguard server I was able to assign an IP Address for the MAC address before connecting it the LAN.

Re: [solved] Re: VPN port forwarding outgoing blocked

An additional piece of info explaining how this occured.

BTW, this is my server....

The box has been located in a spare room via a wifi extender (yes I should have realised this is the culprit earlier), so the MAC registered in the router is that of the extender.

But even after moving the server and wiring direct to the router LAN port I still had the issue that I could login using the LAN address and ping the LAN address, but port forwarding was failing.

So, this is why the router had the incorrect MAC, but even after rebooting the server, the router would not correct the MAC/IP routering due to the static address.

Changing to DHCP at the server did update the router table.

because the router table does not allow editing of the MAC it doesn't draw attention to this being the root cause.

Useful to understand this and have a fix in place.
