Re: Upgrading to WiFi 7

Ah, so the Freesat  box is a tad temperamental.

Re: Upgrading to WiFi 7

Just looking through the event log I see this

"14:54:20,",15,Oct.,DSL,Link,Up:,Down,"Rate=77624kbps,",Up,Rate=19999kbps;,SNR,Margin,"Down=3.2dB,",Up=15.2dB,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
"14:54:18,",15,Oct.,PPP:,Sending,PADI,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
"14:54:13,",15,Oct.,PPP:,Starting,PPP,daemon,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
"14:54:12,",15,Oct.,WAN,Auto-sensing,detected,port,DSL,WAN,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
"14:53:45,",15,Oct.,Booting,firmware,v0.10.00.04201-PN,(Thu,Apr,20,16:54:19,2023),,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
"14:53:45,",15,Oct.,System,start,Button,press,(PowerButton),,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
"14:53:45,",15,Oct.,System,up,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
"14:53:29,",15,Oct.,WAN,Auto-sensing,last,connection,port:,DSL,WAN,

being the last recorded boot.

This message "Booting,firmware,v0.10.00.04201-PN,(Thu,Apr,20,16:54:19,2023)" is always associated with a cold or warm startup/boot.

Maybe the cable plugged into port three needs reseating.

The router is on top of a tall cabinet and not easy to access.  Port three is to the Freesat box.  Port two connected to the main TV.

In an attempt to narrow down the cause of LAN#3 going up an down,

assuming that the Freesat box is physically next to the main TV,

would it be possible to swap over the ethernet plugs that go in the back of the Freesat and TV ?

If the fault moves from LAN#3 to LAN#2, then the Freesat box is the likely culprit, otherwise the LAN#3 cable is suspect.

Re: Upgrading to WiFi 7

Good suggestion, but to access the port on the TV I would need to remove the 55" Tv off the wall.  I am not that brave as even between us I doubt if we would not be able to support the weight.   The ethernet cable is connected well and truly.  It is not loose in either socket, but not sure about the quality of the cable.  I suspect the actual Freesat box internal connection i.e. soldering.

Re: Upgrading to WiFi 7

I need some more help.  For some reason my 2025 Samsung laptop WIN 11 will not connect to router using Wifi.  The laptop does connect using the ethernet cable.  The Samsung tablet connects using Wifi.  No issue with Samsung phones.  This indicates to me that the wifi from the router is working?

I have uninstalled the network adaptor on the laptop, restarted the laptop and the adaptor was re-installed.  However the laptop still will not connect to router using wifi.  It worked okay yesterday until about 6pm when i switched off the laptop.  Weirdly using the hotspot wifi connection on my phone no issue with Samsung laptop connecting to phone?  This indicates that WiFi on laptop is working okay.

However last night at about 945pm the signal to the Freesat box disappeared for several minutes.  The Freesat box is connected to the router using an ethernet cable.

I have attached the event log for the past two days in case there is a clue there.  Any advice.  Thanks.

Re: Upgrading to WiFi 7

Can't see anything on there referencing your laptop, @Surfer , I shall leave it to others to try and help you, though.

Re: Upgrading to WiFi 7

Back again.  Last night the router dropped out twice with no signal.  Neither the Freesat box or the Firestick 4K Max would work at downloading a signal.  Also checked the Tv which is connected by cable and the same issue.

I have gone into Event log and downloaded the log and I can see it in Downloads, but cannot open it using Libreoffice.  Any advice please as would like to save it as a csv file to post on here.   Thanks.

Re: Upgrading to WiFi 7

Okay got it somehow.  Can someone who understands please check to see why we had no signal twice yesterday at about 6pm?  Thanks.

Re: Upgrading to WiFi 7

@Surfer I can only see one disconnection - started at 18.06.12, resolved at 18.07.11, with a 'value change' event at 18.07.33 which I  can't explain as I am not that well up in networking.

Re: Upgrading to WiFi 7

Thanks we definitely had two drop outs.  One at about 6pm and the other a bit later in the evening.  Both lasted a couple of minutes.  We could not use Whatsapp either.

Re: Upgrading to WiFi 7

According to the log there was two DSL drops yesterday, one at around 18:00 and another at around 19:33.

You would have lost all internet connectivity whilst the router re-established the DSL connection.

Re: Upgrading to WiFi 7

Sorry, yes you did, both being 'ERROR NO CARRIER' events. Someone posted an answer to that elsewhere, but I can't remember it in detail.

Re: Upgrading to WiFi 7

Would there be any reason for the drop outs  i.e router or cabinet as we are FTTC?  Thanks.

Re: Upgrading to WiFi 7

Probably a BT/OR network fault, but as it doesn't seem to be causing a major problem at the moment, they will not investigate.
