Router restart / reboot / disconnect

I am now on my 4th plusnet router. Each new one starts off OK but after a few months I have to power it off and on several times a day. Sometimes I do a reset as well. Just been on the forum which suggests logging on to the router via its ip address and doing a disconnect / reconnect rather than rebooting. However when I do this and enter the admin password nothing happens. Is it just Plusnet routers that behave like this? Does anyone suggest an alternative router?
