Have just bought a tv fire stick that uses 5 ghz, unfortunately the PN Hub One is in the next room and unless I move it into the hall which is a pain the wifi signal is pretty bad. I just wanted to know if I bought a BT smart hub 6 would this increase the signal? Any help would be much appreciated.

It should improve it but whether it would improve it enough is a question that can only be answered by trying it. The only certain way to get trouble free streaming is to run an Ethernet cable from the router and get an Ethernet adapter for your Firestick. It takes a bit of effort but once done you eliminate all the vagaries of using a wireless link both now and in the future. .

That'd probably be the cheaper option but what ethernet cable would I need cat 5, 6 or 7 to go underneath a carpet?

Cat 5a is the cheapest and is more than adequate. 6 or 7 will also work but they tend to be bulkier.
