Thanks, @Townman . I would have thought an expert would have known that.

Looking at the event log, there have been a few DSL Link Down messages, also a lot of restarting of Hub.
What I have noticed when the Hub was first connected the sysc rate was
19:37:37, 28 Jan. DSL Link Up: Down Rate=20300kbps, Up Rate=1050kbps; SNR Margin Down=6.3dB, Up=9.0dB
An overnight resync occurred and the upload speed dropped
03:30:07, 31 Jan. DSL Link Down: duration was 201158 seconds
03:30:43, 31 Jan. DSL Link Up: Down Rate=20813kbps, Up Rate=828kbps; SNR Margin Down=6.4dB, Up=13.6dB
10:51:02, 31 Jan. DSL Link Up: Down Rate=20734kbps, Up Rate=828kbps; SNR Margin Down=6.7dB, Up=14.7dB
Today when the Hub two was used again it is still
12:14:27, 10 Feb. DSL Link Up: Down Rate=20069kbps, Up Rate=828kbps; SNR Margin Down=6.1dB, Up=14.3dB
I would expect the slow upload speed is not helpful with unexpected slowdowns when doing stuff.
The line needs to be checked to see why there has been a 200kpbs upload speed drop.
Might be time to look at routerstats on the Hub One?
@tudorradulescu is either Hub connected to the Openreach Master Socket? Are there any unused phone extensions which can be removed?

Thanks @Dan_the_Van must admit I was not looking at the rates that closely, but a drop to 828kbps and a rise in u/s SNR does look a bit suspicious - hadn't spotted that.
Still interested to know why the SNR figures have remained fairly constant since that initial disco, or is it a feature of EO lines?

Helpfully the Hub One works well with the version of router stats designed for the BTHH5a
Set the sample interval to 10 seconds, 720 plots per graph. Use the link below to download.

Its a while since Ive looked at ADSL2, but if the DLM decides to switch on interleaving on the upstream, doesnt that limit the maximum upstream sync to around the 800Kb ? that would account for the increased SNR

I would agree, @MisterW .

I thought the issue raised by the OP was disconnections, which seem to have been forgotten.

The disconnections could well be the cause of the DLM switching on interleaving in an attempt to stabilise the line.

Very possibly, in fact likely, I would have thought - so the reason(s) for those disconnections need investigating, rather than going down rabbit-holes, no?

The last daytime DSL link down covered by the supplied log
10:45:10, 07 Feb. DSL Link Down: duration was 199467 seconds (just over 55 hours)
10:47:32, 07 Feb. DSL Link Up: Down Rate=20705kbps, Up Rate=828kbps; SNR Margin Down=6.3dB, Up=12.2dB
Have you encountered any issues today? If so can you post the event log and indicate the time
When the problem occurs do you notice any change of the Hubs light from Blue?
Whats prompts you to switch to using a hotspot?

Just a side comment, but this is the kind of issue where sight of the very useful Radius graph would be useful. Sadly, the chance of seeing one these days appears to be close to zero.

The problem is the power switch has been used SIX times since the Hub was first powered up, plus ONE GUI reboot, so seven of the radius event would just be caused by those.
I would image with a low speed uplink anything needing to use it (video calls, large file uploads, VPN sessions) will suffer.
These comments were made earlier in the thread.

Agreed, @Dan_the_Van , part of that comment regarding radius logs was kind of driven by previous suggestions that they would have been useful being ignored.
To get back to the OPs initial issue though, it would be interesting to know what they were doing when the problem occurred, and how long they waited before 'pulling the plug', as they say the Hub light remained blue. Does this suggest a 'local' issue?

The hub light remaining blue somewhat suggests no loss of the xDSL session, so we need to know what induced the (not always helpful) reboot of the router?
If something on the network is hammering the upload (cloud storage sync) on a not very fast link, everything else can grind to a standstill.
