Plusnet Hub Two and HP Photosmart printer

Hello all,

I've recently upgraded to full fibre, so I've moved from the Plusnet Hub One to the Plusnet Hub Two.  I have a HP Photosmart B110 printer and the wifi connection has been flaky since the upgrade.  It has worked fine for several years with the Hub One and with a previous router, but since the upgrade it seems to go offline, e.g. when scanning a couple of pages the first page scanned ok but then it went offline, or it stops printing part way through a page.

The printer has a static IP address of 192.168.1.11 (assigned on the printer's web interface).  If I ping it from the Windows Command Prompt, the request sometimes times out, most of the time the ping time is a few ms but other times it is over 3000ms.  The printer's in-built wireless network test report passes without any problem.

I also tried changing it to DCHP with the aim of setting a reserved IP address (using "always use this IP address", but the Hub Two then keeps allocating 192.168.1.11 despite it being outside the DCHP range, and it didn't actually fix the problem, so I've reverted to the static IP address.

Any ideas?  It may possibly be a problem with the printer but it seems to be no coincidence that this issue started when I installed the Hub Two.

@miket

Have you got any further with this issue?

Did you make the Hub Two have the same wireless name as the Hub One?

Point regarding the IP Address staying at 192.168.1.11, unless you delete the device from the devices list on the Hub, the previously allocated IP regardless of being a static or dynamic will be assigned again.

You could see if you can force the printer to use 2.4 GHz rather than leaving the setting to 2.4 and 5 GHz

Sometimes a factory reset of the printer might be required to resolve this.

Re: Plusnet Hub Two and HP Photosmart printer

@Dan_the_Van thanks for the reply.

In answer to your questions:

The SSID on the Hub Two is the same as that on the Hub One (and on the Hub One I used the same SSID for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands).

I've tried switching off the printer and then deleting the device off the hub, and also restarted the hub, but it still assigns the same IP address to the printer.  I also tried changing the IP address in the device list entry in the hub to one in the DHCP range but it still allocated the original .11 address.

The printer is using 2.4GHz (at present) but I'll monitor it next time I switch it on to see if it connects to 5GHz (though I think it unlikely as it's in a different room from the hub).  There are options on the printer web interface under "Compatibility" to set it to use 802.11b behaviour or to use 802.11b/g behaviour, but I'm not sure whether this would force it to use 2.4GHz.

Another option I may try is to switch off Energy Saver Mode (though this is currently set to go into energy-saving mode after 15 minutes) but I've never had any issue with this before, and in any case I'm seeing the issues within a few minutes of switching on the printer.

The problem does seem to be intermittent, and we only use the printer from time to time, so it's a bit difficult to monitor.
