Plusnet Hub Two - Clearing the Cache

I am shuffling my home network and need to clear the cache on my Plusnet Hub Two (I have a mix of fixed IP Addresses and devices using DHCP).

If I put a paper clip in it and power off/on I believe I will lose all my settings, is that correct?

Is there a way to clear the cache completely without affecting other settings?

Is there a way to get it to clear its caches on re-booting? It seems odd the cache survives a re-boot.

Re: Plusnet Hub Two - Clearing the Cache

What 'cache' are you talking about and what exactly are you hoping to achieve?

If you're talking about the IP addresses assigned to your device, then these will have been issued using DHCP. Even the static addresses will be assigned via DHCP if you're relying on the 'always use this IP' feature of the hub.

Each DHCP assignment is assigned a lease expiry that will be 'stored' on the connecting device itself. Releasing this DHCP assignment is something that needs to be done on the client device, not the hub.

Re: Plusnet Hub Two - Clearing the Cache

@jeff-gaines

The correct procedure to factory reset the Hub is hold the paperclip in for around 30 seconds until the light goes green, this will result in a OFF / ON of the hub as part of the reset process.

Are you meaning the DHCP Address Table, you can delete individual device from the Hub in

>Advanced settings >My network >My devices

Make sure the devices are switched off first you should see "Remove" has a plusnet red background, click on remove and the device will be deleted.

No sure I agree the DHCP Address allocation so not survive a Hub reboot, could result in any Port Forward rule to break.

Re: Plusnet Hub Two - Clearing the Cache

To clarify the cache I am referring to is available from the Modem home page under "My Devices" although it says "My Network" when the page opens.

At the bottom of that page is a list of devices that have ever been connected to the modem since time immemorial as far as I can see.

I appreciate I can remove them one by one if the device is off but it took me a while to realise that and I hoped there was an easier way. The original problem was 2 PCs whose name/IP Address I needed to swap but Windows RDP kept sending me to the wrong PC!

Re: Plusnet Hub Two - Clearing the Cache

Sorry for the mixup with the location name, was going from memory. Yes the devices list will have a history of all devices that have connected. Looks to be a mix up with RDP to me rather the Hub, IP Address are allocated to the MAC address, the listed device name on the could be anything.

Re: Plusnet Hub Two - Clearing the Cache

Many thanks.

Even using RDP with an IP address took me to the wrong machine so it is very odd.

Is there no way to clear the cache without losing the other settings?

Re: Plusnet Hub Two - Clearing the Cache

Hi,

what other settings are you worried about, Port Forward rule or static IP Addresses?

Other than just going through the list as I described before the only option is a factory reset, which I agree is a pain.

Re: Plusnet Hub Two - Clearing the Cache

Thank you 🙂

I am not concerned abut other settings, I have used this setup since I had more than one computer but have not had a modem/router that maintains its cache through a re-boot, seems very odd.

Re: Plusnet Hub Two - Clearing the Cache

I've just checked both a Hub One and Two, they both maintain the DHCP IP Allocation table on reboot or after being powered off for an extended time.

I see what you are saying, can not say it's caused me any concern, with the Hub two the IP address are not allocated in number sequence but randomly which did annoy me, I moved away from the Hub two for now to a router with DHCP server interface that suits my needs better.
