Plusnet Hub 2 running hot

It's about the heat of a phone on charge all the time. 

I'm about to order some lengthy cat 6 cable from my router to the room where my pcs are. Openreach wouldn't install the fibre (145) ONT In that room, grr. So I thought I'd also upgrade the cable from the ONT to the router (I cant see what category it is - the installer said that cable should be very short (really?).  Would the cable upgrade make matters worse wrt heat of hub one?

My network speed over WiFi is very slow, so I did wonder about getting a new router while I'm at it.  Any views?

I've always thought Cat5e cable was more than enough for home networks unless you're involved in video editing (or such like). I just don't see the need for the extra capacity (capacity - not speed). It's also more flexible than Cat6.

The router can be anywhere you like so long as the cable is under 100m - the ethernet operating limit.

Are your PC's on the same floor or upstairs? If the latter have you considered running an external cable?

I bought a FritzBox 7530 router on CEX for £35. It's the router of choice for Zen Internet so plentry of help pages on their website. The AX version has better WiFi if you have the equipment to support it.

Many thanks Brian, I'll look at the router. I will save myself some dosh on avoiding cat 6, although interesting to note that Open reach recommend cat 6 for "future proofing".

PC and hub are on the same floor, with a wall in between, but it's already breached with hi-fi cables, so not an issue, I can use the same hole :). HiFi speaker cables may be removed when I move to wireless speakers.

Maybe my router had always run hot, it's only now I've been handling it that I've noticed it?
